I'm on a trip from Charleston, SC to the Outer Banks. Its a mix of 65 mph state highway driving, and mostly light-traffic 2-lane stop & go to Myrtle Beach traffic on SR 17. These numbers are on Sunday, 75° in my 2016 F150 crew cab with 3.55 axle, 6 speed auto, stock tire size (Michelin LTX upgrade at 50,000 miles). The car has 60,000 miles.
Ford Computer @ 230 miles: 24.3 mpg
Actual 230.4 ÷ 9.73 gallons=23.7 mpg
Last week, my actual round-town to the beach & shopping miles: 17.6 mpg.
Notice that the Ford mileage computer lies by about .7 mpg.

Octane: the above trip mileage (24mpg) was on a fresh tank of 91 octane. It drops 2 mpg after a few tanks of 87 octane. Ford says either octane is OK, but the best "performance" (horsepower and mpg) is obtained with premium fuel. See attached from owners manual, etc

Since 70% of Bronco owners have the 2.7, I thought I'd share some real numbers. Granted, the F150 is heavier and larger wind surface, but the Bronco has a lower axle ratio (3.55 vs 4.27 or 4.7) although Badlands and up have 33" or 35" tires. But im guessing (hoping) ill get about the same mpg in the Bronco with the 2.7 . . . But we"ll see!

Keep in mind the 2.7 has two injectors/cylinder (cleans cylinder) and 2 turbos, while the 2.3 eco has 1 injector/cylinder and 1 turbo.

If anyone has the opportunity to buy ethanol free gas. Try it. You’ll be amazed at the mpg increase. Ethanol should be illegal as a gasoline filler.

Unfortunately I can only get 87 ethanol free where I am. That being said my wife's Explorer with the 3.5 ecoboost gets noticeably better mileage with 93 vs 87 octane fuel.

At the Bronco "show and tell" this morning we were told before we even got to touch and sit in the trucks not to ask about MPG because they aren't allowed to talk about it. They had a Badlands manual there and the guy that's been driving it said it's great and shifts smoothly and has plenty of power

In Mt Pleasant SC, Sunday 5/9/21, Sunoco sold Recreational Fuel (Ethanol Free) for $3.48. Premium 91 Octane was $3.33 at the same pump. I hope i made the right decision for the 2.7 in the OBX, because the 2.3 runs on 87 octane. Will be interesting after we all get them to compare mpg and power, and see if the 2.3 ECO in the Bronco will be a good & durable engine going forward!

Ethanol is a farming subsidy disguised as a pollution control...

It was originally billed as a gasoline stretcher (because we were "running out of fossil fuel") using "cheap" corn. Now, doesnt the corn alcohol cost more than gasoline? Corn farmers are doing well with it, and no one has the political courage to end the expensive boondoggle. Ethanol fuel RUINED my boat engine, however.

You would have to fact check this but it is said it takes 2 gallons of dino fuel to produce one gallon of corn liquor.
We need corn for food not to ruin cars etc.

So just using your numbers for MPG at 24.3 MPG w/91 and two miles less per gallon at 22.3 MPG w/87 we get (using my local prices of $3.54 for 87 and $4.10 for 91) only $0.01/mile more for premium ($0.16/mile with 87 and $0.17/mile with 91) on the highway. That ain't bad!

It can get a little sputtery or a bit rough at idle if it sees no 91 for a few months, and according to Ford, their horsepower ratings are only top with Premium.

Aside from the slightly better gas mileage, and smoother running, the Ford confirmed order link, the Premium fuel gives 15 more horsepower and 5 more pounds of touque. Which is why i mostly use 87, and occasionally 91.

I have had several ecoboost F150's, a '11, '13, '16 and now '17. The ONLY time I run premium is when I am towing and it's hot. The ecoboost dumps fuel to cool itself. Running premium helps to prevent this but in my experience the added cost of premium negates any increase in fuel economy.
