Why not shut down during one of the biggest releases that Ford has done, sounds like a grand idea

Every week I'm expecting a new curve ball. This week we have had two already... Hope some positive news comes soon also! We need it! I've started to browse Defenders lately, it only takes 12 Weeks from Order to Dealer.... I reserved 7/14 Wildtrak, so if I get pushed to MY22, I will for sure pull the trigger on a new Defender 110.

This does't surprise me. I email the general manager at my dealer regularly...cordial conversations about the Bronco and other things Ford. Quick stats he gave me on Monday:

Daily average new cars on lot: 150-175
Current new cars on lot: 21

Daily average used cars on lot: 90-110
Current used cars on lot: 28

This, sadly, is only going to get worse throughout the summer with these shutdowns. Their sales team is in for a tough go of it.

Automotive is getting hit with this computer chip shortage. Pretty much all plants are shutting down due to lack of parts.

Well, we could look it like this, this means they have 2 more weeks to get more parts

I’m not too concerned. I’m guessing they’re shutting down for two weeks to give their employees some R&R time before it’s pure, raw, unfiltered chaos for the next few months. Two weeks paid vacation before they’re cranking out a hundred Broncos a day through November at least. I’m sure it gives suppliers plenty of time to stage the parts throughout the line, gives the foremen time to rehearse assembly plans, etc. without production going on.
Trying to use logic and reason here. Our 2021 Ranger came from MAP and there’s a few minor details (flaws, such as an un-lubed seat latch that sticks and has to be manually yanked back into position to lock down, and a finicky seat adjuster) about it that I’ve noticed that indicate they’ve been stressed.
With the biggest rollout in history only a few weeks away, they’re likely taking every step necessary to make sure everything’s going to go as smoothly as possible.
Personally, if I were a project manager or had any logistics control at MAP, I’d want to do everything I can to ensure my crew was well-rested and on top of their game, come day zero of production.

Nice take on the situation. Positive and based upon former purchases. We all don't know what's going on, but we sure have faith in Ford doing the best they can to provide the best product.
After going to Moab for a Bronco run and watching the Sup Cel videos I am still stoked for getting my rig. "This" will be fun!

I work for an automotive supplier and we have been shutting certain lines down for 2 weeks at a time for awhile now . We supply Ford , FCA , Mercedes , Chevrolet , BMW , Samsung etc and they are all having issues with getting parts . The people complaining obviously have not tried to purchase an appliance , OSB or any of the thousands of products affected by the forced shutdowns of the past year . I tried to have my garage spray foam insulated by the company that did my house back in 2018 and they can't get product to keep up with the demand . I tried to find a DIY spray kit and Home Depot , Lowes , Amazon etc are all out . I have a backorder from one of the manufactures directly . Let's not even discuss getting ammunition for my guns .

Oh I will! I can get 9mm, and was able to get 5.56, but still having issues with 40 SW. And the cost?! a buck+ a round...Crazy!

Yep same here . I'm well stocked on 5.56 ,9mm and luckily .40S&W but I had put a big dent in my .22LR supply so I've stopped shooting that for now . I did get a few boxes of subsonic .22 a few weeks ago from Midway and the price was ridiculous . I remember when I sold my .50 BMG because each round was a buck ,LOL.

So I've seen on B6G a long thread on this, but can anyone, maybe BN staff, confirm if this is due to Covid, parts, or a break for the union before they get worked to death for the next 2 years to build these broncos. @Laura

Thanks for sharing. There was some good information. I realized the chip shortage had a lot to do with overseas plants being shut down for Covid but I hadn't thought about the increased demand by computer manufactures since people and schools were gearing up for working/learning at home.
