I think I'm changing my color - And here is why

Most people here know I'm all about wanting a Grabber Blue Bronco. Who knows when and if that will happen. It's also probably well known that none of the current brighter or fun colors really grab me.

My current order is for Velocity Blue. Which I just like but don't love.

So yesterday I was thinking. And it just came to me. I might switch to Carbonized Gray. Here is my reasoning...

My mom passed away a few weeks after the Bronco reveal. She was in home hospice and bed ridden with pancreatic cancer. We were staying with her to care for her. Watching the Bronco reveal was the last thing we really did before she took a turn for the worse. Mom's name was Eleanor. So I was thinking about naming my Bronco Eleanor in memory of her. What else has the name Eleanor?? Yup you guessed it. And what color is that Eleanor?? Gray. Albeit pebble gray metallic.

Truly sorry for your loss!! I think that naming your Bronco Eleanor and changing to Carbonized Gray is a wonderful way to tribute your mother! I lost my mother just over 10 years ago. She was 90 years old. She always had this gray streak in her hair - ever since I was a little girl. I ended up with the same thing, but always colored my hair. After she passed, I no longer color that gray streak as a tribute to her. I don't think you will be sorry going with that Gray and that name for your Bronco!!

Very sorry for your loss...

As an FYI, the Paint color of Eleanor is Pepper Grey Metallic (Dupont color code Fleet 44490) with Black Metallic LeMans Rally Stripes (Dupont color code 44435). I think you'd find that Iconic Silver is closer to the color of that car... it really does look great in real life, and has a sort of metallic glow to it. You could add a metallic black racing stripe (or two) and a lower rocker-panel strip, and two KC lights in the front.

I’m truly sorry for your loss. My Mom passed away January 7 of this year. I have a BL SAS 4 door Lux on order with the MIC top. I may be waiting awhile but will now think about my Mom (and many others) every time I drive it.

I think you have sterling gray metallic. I had a 2012 Focus Titanium in sterling gray metallic. Also had a 2007 F-150 in dark shadow gray metallic. I love gray. It's just become too common. But in this instance I'm not going to let that affect my decision.

Yup you are correct!

I’ve been told carbonized gray and sterling gray have the same base coat color, but the carbonized gray has a heavier metallic flake compared to sterling gray. Not sure if that is true or not as automotive paint is definitely well beyond my specialty, but when I parked next to a carbonized gray Bronco Sport at the dealership it definitely looked extremely close.

LOL that's a damn good question. Music is one place that mom and I never saw eye to eye. She was Andy Williams, Roger Whitaker, Kenny Rogers, Yanni. I am Iron Maiden, Clutch, Metallica, Pink Floyd, etc. Probably the only one that we both liked is John Denver. So maybe Take Me Home, Country Roads.

One other touch I'm going to do. Mom had an awesome signature. I still have paperwork and documents that she signed when her writing was good. I'm going to print out a small vinyl decal of her first name and find a nice spot to place it.

The tribute is a lasting memory of your loved one my wife did something similar when the 2005 Mustangs were introduce her Aunts name was Eleanor and so the day we got the vin I contacted DMV to see if the vanity tag Eleanor was available and it was so her new Mustang had a tag before it left the plant.

I think this would look really sweet - I was pleasantly surprised how nicely the blue plays with the grey!

Just for funsies I looked up the closest color match to Grabber Blue and 3M advises that it’s Gloss Sky Blue (G77).

Here are a few pics next to my CG Bronco. Let me know if an old skool hockey stripe and some grille overlays are in your future

I think this would look really sweet - I was pleasantly surprised how nicely the blue plays with the grey!

I love blue and gray together. If I can't have blue as a main color, I'll deal with it as an accent color.

I love blue and gray together. If I can't have blue as a main color, I'll deal with it as an accent color.

Looking at that it may be a little light. I think grabber is a little darker. I would have to see it in person.

I agree - Sky Blue isn’t a great match. Unfortunately, my quick internet research suggested that the Sky Blue was the closest to Grabber Blue.

3M doesn’t make a lot of different shades of blue. Here’s a comparison to Matte Riviera Blue (M67) which is significantly closer to the shades you suggested.

I only work with the 3M films because I find them to be excellent to apply and they really stand up to the elements well.

If you find a vinyl film color that you want, I am happy to cut it to my patterns & send it back to you.

I agree - Sky Blue isn’t a great match. Unfortunately, my quick internet research suggested that the Sky Blue was the closest to Grabber Blue.

3M doesn’t make a lot of different shades of blue. Here’s a comparison to Matte Riviera Blue (M67) which is significantly closer to the shades you suggested.
