Now that Hard Case is here, I am prepping to do some light off-roading. I am not an off-roader or tool guy but I want to have a decent “Oh Shit” kit in the truck with me.
Please go ahead a list what you think a newbie (or experienced) Bronco driver should have with them to “be prepared”.
Thanks, stay safe, and Squatch On!!

Well, I guess that would do the trick if you wanted to be prepared for ANYTHING...
Seriously, that is a very complete, well prepared setup and sound advise.
I got the folding 3-piece set of allen and torx wrenches from HFT, it saves a bit of weight and space vs. The torx sockets. Granted, it's more limited in the larger sizes.
I also like to carry a 1/2" breaker bar with a socket to fit the lugnuts over a factory tire iron. Most everything else on the trail can be done with 3/8 drive, and at very least a 1/4 drive 10mm.

Well I was going to paste in my list but @Bonnie6G 's list is better than mine so I'm just going go hide in a corner I guess. ;)

I'll just add this:

For the Bronco (and Ford vehicles in general), you will want a metric set—NOT SAE. Just about everything on the Bronco is in metric. And you'll need most sizes from 8mm to 27mm. Ford also uses a healthy amount of Torx as well, and on the Bronco specifically they have included a handful of Torx Plus screws just to be extra annoying. Unfortunate because they can be hard to find. Usually you can get away without a Torx plus, but once rust starts taking ahold (even minor surface rust) you may end up stripping the head with regular Torx.

Ha, yeah, it’s a pretty full list. I probably still missed a few things =]. I would for sure carry the safety stuff, and the recovery stuff though, regardless of where I’m going simply because you just never know what you’ll run into on the trail, or how the weather might change, etc. on the tools side, you can get away with less, but like other things I carry, I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

It was easier to modify the first list than to type it. I'd bring all of what you need and none of what you don't. Knowing what that is comes from experience. Experience comes from not knowing.

- Binoculars
- Torque Wrench
- Rotopax with fresh gas

I would add a blanket of some type and a tarp big enough that if you have to lay on the ground you can keep clean and dry. Tarp can also be used with the blanket to keep warm.

I'm assuming this would only be for when you're going out off-roading and not for every day use? This looks like a huge neon sign saying "break into me and steal my stuff" - almost as bad as just leaving a purse or wallet on the passenger seat.

@Papasquatch is prepping to do some light off-roading. He's not an off-roader or tool guy. I'm not sure an exhaustive list is the right first step. It might make sense to start with some light off-roading, for a guy/gal that isn't an off-roader and not a tool guy/gal. Then see what you wish you had. You could pull a small trailer with a Snap-On 3-piece rolling chest with $10k in basic tools and 30-days worth of freeze-dried meals, but it's going to ruin the experience. Everyone gets so caught up in being the biggest/best they forget the question.

Seriously @Papasquatch, the best thing to do is familiarize yourself with some basic tools in the driveway (don't overthink it), especially changing a tire (carry a spare before you learn to plug a tire). You're not going to have to do a leak-down test and change piston rings. You're going to have to change a tire and you may need to remove a fender flare that is hanging off when you scrape a tree or rock. A flat screwdriver takes the place of a Phillips on the trail, you don't need both. You only need the tools that fit the rig and your experience. You don't need tools you're not familiar with.

Snatch strap, a way to attach it to the vehicle, and a shovel. You don't need a first aid kit unless you have first aid training. In fact, you don't need anything on that list to do light off-roading. Let someone know where you're going and when you expect to be back, then have fun.

In addition to all the good suggestions above:

I’ve learned to carry a spare serpentine belt, and a breaker bar with the correct sized socket for the belt tensioner, which can be very hard to move away from the belt with only a regular ratchet (especially if you are changing the belt alone).
Replacement fuses.
Bottle of oil.
Multimeter.
Leatherman tool.
Disposable jumpsuit and nitrile gloves.

For sure. For everyday, I have a bag with first aid kit, food, water, warming gear, and thats about it in case I get stuck on a highway somewhere in inclement weather. When in town, I’ve got access to road side assistance, family, friends, etc. It’s being out in the trails and isolated that can require more gear, and hell, these days as long as all you’ve got is a good communication device, help really isn’t that far off when on even the most isolated trails. For me, I carry my pre-packed tool bag and other supplies as I prefer to be self reliant. I like knowing that I’ve got just about any tool that could possibly be needed for 99.9% of the potential off-road scenarios. I’m lucky enough to have the budget to do it, and It allows me to be self reliant as well as being a potential resource for others on the trail.

Bronco is not my DD so I leave a decent amount of gear in it. That’s also why I created this shelf - not only does it provide additional storage, it obscures prying eyes!

Under the shelf is my compressor, tool kit, jumper cables, jump box, flares, tow rope, kinetic rope & soft shackles, lantern and a moving blanket.
