Ford Pass Down Until April!

My Ford Pass app is dead until April. I have to bring my Bronco to the dealer so they can perform a software update.

The app has not updated my vehicle information for several days. I tried to "Activate" the vehicle through the app but had no success. A subsequent chat with two Ford Pass representatives revealed that I had to take the Bronco to the dealer to get it reactivated. They said that a number of 2023 Broncos and F-150 pickup trucks were affected and that the update would not be available until sometime in April. A similar post on B6G indicated the update wouldn't be available until JUNE! As the Dude would say, "That's a Bummer, man."

Has anyone else noticed that their Ford Pass app is no longer working?

UPDATE: I got a (temporary?) fix to work… By disconnecting the negative battery terminal and resetting the app. Based on the experience of others, this may be only a quick fix until Ford can update the system on their end, as early as mid-April or as late as June. Fingers crossed…

The battery disconnect and reconnect worked great for me. The wrench you need is included in the tool kit that came with the Bronco. It’s been working great since then.

Glad to hear that the permanent fix could be in April instead of June.

That reboots the system, same solution you use for Windows. . .
Bronco has too many problems.

My Ford Pass is fully functional again after disconnecting and reconnecting the negative battery terminal. I updated my first post. As I indicated, I'm hopeful I do not have to perform this hack again. Then again, every computer needs a hard reboot from time to time. It's the nature of the beast. They're complex machines. Thanks, @Bluestreak57! :geek:

Given the number of trim levels and configurations available I’m amazed there haven’t been more problems… I have a 23my and except for resetting sync twice (which is easy) I’ve had NO problems…

Lots of tech, lots of parts, lots of users not used to that much tech… there’s going to be some snags…

I think, in retrospect, this is a problem not with FordPass, but with the Bronco’s sync system losing connectivity. I say this because I have not had the issue with my ‘20 F150, and the negative battery post removal on the Bronco solves the problem (usually)…

I just recent activated my Hot spot with AT&T but of course it does not work nor does the connectivity work - called ford Tech - yes they want me o bring it to the dealer - must be some problem with the modem? we will see?

Bruce, I would start by disconnecting the neg terminal for 15 minutes and reconnecting…. That restarts sync and in many cases reconnects everything…. Save a trip to the dealer. There are a number of threads here concerning sync and FordPAss, and I would try everything you find here before taking it to your dealer.

I have been on a few Threads about disconnecting the battery, so about 2 Months ago I gave it a try and it worked great for about 3 weeks, then it went down again.
The issue is more about the Modem in your Bronco than the App.
Most of you will find out like I did that there is no rhythm or reason why the modem will stop working one day, so I decided not to disconnect the battery again and see what happens.
After about a week and a half the modem started working again for about 2 weeks then without warning it just stopped again, and as of today (which is about 5 days now) the modem has not kicked on again.
I decided not to keep taking the Negative terminal off just to get my Modem working again " which does work when you do this" I'll just wait till April 17th to get the download (update) to my Bronco.
However when it is released I believe we may have to take the Negative terminal off for the 15 to 20 minutes just to get the Modem working again so we can get the update to our Broncos, but if you don't want to do this I guess the next option would be to take it in and have them do it......
This problem is on most early MY2023 Broncos.

I have the same issue with my ‘23 - negative disconnect works fine and is easy enough but ridiculous for a $60k new vehicle. I picked mine up a month ago and disconnected the negative for the third time this morning. That resets everything and it works fine after that. But I really hope the April update fixes it. Other than that annoyance I love it so far.

Little niggling things in the big scheme…. Shouldn’t have happened but one of the issues with so any trim levels, options, and constant changes…. combine that with the high schoolers writing the software, and you have just another Senior Prom

A post above mentioned but since I have to do it about every 7-10 days, I will mention it again. A battery disconnect (negative terminal, 10mm socket, leave disconnected 10 min or so) and reconnect works to get the app working again. It's not only the app that goes down, it's the modem. So the compass feature in the small nav window will show a cloud with a line through it instead, and if you are Sirius XM user, you won't be able to access their extended stations (for me this was a huge issue in Dec/Jan with NFL games). So it's more than a Ford Pass issue, but the other features may not bother you either. Fix supposedly in June. Until then, I know when it's down thanks to the cloud popping up on my screen or the loss of the up down arrow icon on the top row of the screen (connectivity icon). Pop the hood, disconnect, come back out in ten, reconnect and I'm good. It's so sad that I actually keep a 10mm in my arm rest!

And yes, I'm fully aware that the modem is sending data collected off my vehicle to the Man. But I'm an Amazon prime user, my medical records are in an EMR and I mainly bank online. So their isn't much the Man doesn't already know about me 😂

Same here with the XM Radio, I love channel (I think) 525 it is the Top 1000 classic Rock and if that’s not working then I know my Modem is down again, so I just wait until it kicks in again.
Just tired of unplugging the Neg. Terminal every time, because then your stuck resetting some of your presets….

@Dr Detroit, great post! I think someone mentioned somewhere (maybe here) that Ford included a 10mm socket along with a wrench in the little Bronco tool kit. Perhaps they expect us to use it to disconnect the negative battery cable every time Ford Pass goes on strike. LOL

In all seriousness, in the (sixty) grand theme of things, this shouldn't happen on a brand-new vehicle. So, I think it's only fair to expect some people to grumble about it. So long as it's constructive. Agree, @Ford Motor Company? Those who've contributed to this discussion are awesome in my book, because they care enough to share the hacks that have moved us past utter frustration and into (temporary?) relief. Don't get me wrong, but this is a little disappointing. It does impact my overall ownership experience.

Yes, it's a petty annoyance, but I shouldn't have to adjust my expectations every time something that should be reliable fails to deliver. We need a higher standard. Circling back, did I mention that I LOVE my Bronco? 😍

@Dr Detroit , I appreciate you bringing the instructions forward again…

I’m sure it’s not a FordPass issue, as I have had no loss of connectivity with my F150…. Some combination of sync and later model (22/23) broncos seems to be the issue…

fortunately a 10 mm wrench doesn’t take up much space…

The only thing I seem to have to re-set every time is ambient lighting (weird). Radio presets all stay. Wonder why we are having different results. Just brainstorming out loud but could it be the length of time we are disconnecting for? Albeit it’s a pain to keep doing it but I’m just curious.

I haven’t noticed having to reset anything, but i dont pay attention to ambient lighting so that might be an issue. I have never (knock on wood) lost radio presets or Wi-Fi network information with the disconnect effort.
