Autoblog | Ford Can Now Stop Some Vehicles Starting, Even With The Key

Ford has introduced Start Inhibit on certain models, which aims to prevent theft by disallowing even someone with an authorized key to drive off with your vehicle, unless they have the pin or your app.

Would you like this on your Bronco or another Ford? Pros or cons you see? Is $7.99 a month worth it to you?

I would pay for this as a one time purchase. Not on a subscription.

While I do use 2FA extensively, this is just a solution looking for a problem. What are the theft statistics for the models Ford is rolling this out on? They're only attempting to create another revenue stream.

Since you asked:

Hard pass. The cynic in me believes that Ford is working with the government to put surveillance and kill switches in our cars, and thinks they can package it as "security" feature to make you pay for it. Ford is unbelievably hostile towards consumers. If you can lock out your ignition via software, so can Ford. So can hackers. So can the governments they give this access to.

Remember that buggy-as-all-hell trail app? The one that never worked right? The one they pulled after a year(ish)? That's the quality you can expect in this premium "security" feature.

You forgot the part where we get to PAY for the privilege of big brother having controll.

I don't think I want ford being the gate keeper... They let thieves run off with over One Million dollars worth of Ford Raptors a few years ago... right off the storage lot...
