Extremely happy with the Goodyear tires .....

.....that is until I got the notification. A couple of weeks ago I Took the Wildtrak on a dirt road near the Johnson Valley OHV nothing extreme just stretching the legs. (First 1000 miles), No issues super happy go lucky got home. The following morning I woke up to a notification of low air from the FordPass App. Got the spare tire on (lift with your legs ...lol ), and off to the Goodyear store. Thinking a quick bead reseat or repair patch. Was at the store for about 5 minutes and was called to the service bay.
Turns out I need a new tire because a "toothpick" pierced the side wall... 🤦🏻
Offending "toothpick"

White marks the spot

Closer look

I have owned Goodyear tires before and overall they have been good. This particular set does not make excessive road noise, and I was happy when the bronco came with them.

These tires do like to take little round souvenirs from the off-road session. They will spit it at your under body, door panels and preferably something that will make a loud ping nosie randomly. Just to remind you of the good times you had last week.

A week later.

Guys @ Ford,
Please look into a better tire for an all capable on-off-road SUV.

Guys @ GoodYear,
... I'm not mad, just disappointed.

Great write up. Tks for sharing. Snow or pavement the goodyears are pretty good. Beyond that not so good.

My friend swears by the kevlar goodyears for offroad driving in his 2003 Z71 Tahoe here in the desert.

KO2s are great but a little hard and be mindful of rear slippage under throttle on wet roads. At least in a Gen1 2 door Raptor..

We went with 37 Maxxis Trepador tires on our Bronco and can't say enough good things about em. Look good, smooth at any speed even 100mph, low road noise, excellent grip, handles corners confidently with a 3 inch lift and they're extremely durable for offroading. They're also the tire of choice my friend above added on his old K5 Blazer.

And yes, lift with legs!! I removed my 37 spare few weeks ago to improve driving experience and prolong tailgate life (awesome decision btw). My son was there watching dad untorque/break loose the 3000lb tight lugs with what felt like one arm but was using 2 then remove spare but instead of my legs it was all arm and wrist. My left wrist just healed this week haha. Ole dad may have some gray hair but he's still got a little juice left in the tank. Or at least my mind thinks I do...just takes a bit longer to recover these days :)

That's still every day here in SoCal. More herb stores in my area than people. AND most of the shops deliver!! Easier than ordering a pizza. Merica lol

Im telling you, the GoodYears with Kevlar on a 2WD Tundra were good enough to go "light" off roading.

I know what you mean about the tailgate. For me, it was not so much the spare take off It was the putting the damaged tire back on 🤣
