Howdy friends!
I’ve noticed some people being down in the dumps about all of these Broncos getting totally wrecked in 0-60 times and unofficial drag races. I’m not going to say that these outlets are doing this on purpose, but there have yet to be any sort of apples to apples comparisons… until today that I’ve found. I’ll just start off with this: behind the wheel in my experience, Bronco is pretty dang quick and 99% of people are going to be totally happy. Now, why are the numbers we’ve seen not so good so far relative to the wrangler? Gearing, tire size, fuel octane, modes, traction control, elevation, and driver skill all make a huge difference. As soon as you compare Wrangler vs Bronco when controlling for those variables, I think Bronco is going to absolutely shine. And I believe that thanks to this video:
Stangmode obviously knows what he is doing behind the wheel, and while we don’t have a 0-60 time from him, we did get a 1/4 mile time: 15.29. His 2.3, 32” tire, 3.73 gearing Big Bend is almost identical to a 2.0 Sahara Wrangler in specs… and the Motor Trend 1/4 mile time for that Wrangler? 15.3 seconds. So when comparing like for like, the 2.3 Bronco is going to compare very favorably to the 2.0 wrangler. (Which I should say, I was pleasantly surprised when I drove a 2.0 Wrangler. It’s a solid powerplant.) And then of course, adding the 2.7 with its 30 additional horsepower and 90 extra foot pounds is going to give it a leg up over the 2.0 wrangler. When I saw TFL posting 10 second 0-60 times for a Wildtrak I knew I had to address this, that is barely faster than my 3.8 Wrangler with 205 horsepower. I’m not sure what they are doing wrong but it must be several things to get the Bronco to be that slow.
