I'm sure there have been discussions on this, but I was hoping someone could explain why Ford discontinues popular color choices like Area 51 and Cyber Orange. Thanks

Excellent question! Perhaps focus groups weighed in unfavorably. In corporate America, a lot of things are decided upon by a committee. I doubt one person is responsible for pulling the plug on any given color.

At the end of the day, they have to be able to move units, so maybe they felt the colors they abandoned lacked sustainable interest. They may have thought those colors were great, high-impact colors. Initially, at least. Once they made a splash, their job was done, so they were retired. They generated interest in the brand and then they decided to go with "safer" colors for a wider audience. Just a hunch.

I think you are right about the focus groups. I heard somewhere.... may be urban myth.... I don't know, but something about following the fashion industry by a couple years with slightly more subdued versions. I can remember where I heard that. Probably a liar's anonymous meeting.

I will hazard a guess that the fluctuation in color and availability are connected to that old nemesis, The Supply Chain. It wouldn't shock me to discover that they have multiple companies bidding on the price and supply of various tints, and that furthermore those tints are competing for attention from different OEMs and their assorted and fickle customers. I'd also venture a guess that various focus groups will label color A as potato and color B as potato. Or tomato and tomato. Or worse yet, soda and POP! Of course, the sensible among us know that POP is the correct label to assign to a sugary carbonated beverage. But I digress...
Personally I had Cactus Grey foisted upon me and was not given a choice, however, like Athlete's Foot or Grandad's corn, it grew on me. I kinda like it now. Dr. Scholls helped with the foot fungi. Grandpa suffered in silence. But we among the Bronco faithful still have a colorful array of more desirable choices available from which to choose.

So us peeps who got Rapid Red on our '21's can come in here with 50k miles and still ask for $10k over what we paid for it! 😁

Actually, I have no idea why they do it. I'm sure there is some rhyme or reason to the madness, but we will probably never know. Plus Area 51 was ugly anyways.

I'm happy with my "Ugly" Area51 and glad they will be limited to the first 2 1/2 year run. :)

Everybody wants new colors but fusses when Ford drops some to add new ones ,lol. The opinions of a few forum members which are representative of a very small segment of Bronco buyers in the first place are probably not high on Fords decision making process.

First, Hi to all my fellow Bronco'ers! I have a 22' Cyber Orange Sport and I absolutely love the color, I ordered it that way. The only thing I don't like is everyone says it's yellow!! 😡 I think the reason Ford changes some of the colors is just to change some of the colors. Why they picks the ones they do to discontinue idk, maybe they draw out of a hat! 😆😆 but God help me if they pull out a mischievous purple bronco I'll be in some serious trouble!

I would say it's for the lack of units going out in those colors. I myself am a visual person and spending 60k on a vehicle I wanted something I knew would look good. I love EG and AMB but when I ordered in 21 all I could see in those colors was an online pic and that wasn't enough for me to be bold and purchase it. I do regret not changing colors to EG when I had to reorder. That being said I'm happy with my choice and I love my color. I would think there's a lot of people early who felt the same way. People don't like change so they never altered there orders after they started rolling them out.

I had a CO on order it was canceled so I got EG, second choice. My issue is replacing every good color with another shade of grey, silver or white. BORING.

I love the brighter colors. I had the same experience with my Grabber Orange 2007 Mustang GT. People kept calling it yellow, but when I actually parked next to a yellow Mustang, they could see the difference.

Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.

I know right! I am a bright color person myself. I was thinking of getting someone to make me a sticker that says "Stop calling me yellow, I'm Cyber Orange" 😂😂

The color looks great on the right vehicle. Too much of it can be overpowering, but it is a head turner.
CYOM has no more Orange in it than Chrome Yellow had yellow in it. The only difference is how that the sun and shade will play on the Metallic paint. It was always a yellow/orange blend and a color I fondly remember.

The thing is that with the top being either Carbonized Gray or ragtop black, there’s only two colors that match the paint (white with Special Addition). I feel most everything else it’s a hodgepodge of color contrasts between the body, top, and grill.

That’s exactly why I ordered my 2dr Sasquatch in Carbonized Gray that has that “integrated look”. In certain light it appears a bit green. Love it.

Cyber Orange is Orange Juice Orange. Fords attempt at trying to be funny. They should have just named it OJ and been done with it. The "Juice" would not have cared. :)

😀 Awe Thanks!!! I thought of you the other day, driving home after dinner I played leap frog with another EG Bronco! It was nice riding behind him at times! I love my Eruption Green Bronco!! The color is so sharp! No regrets!!

I do envy your auburn lights though! Some day I will be a poser and add them to my Badlands! 😉😎

2007. Found those pix. Clearly, there's a difference between yellow and orange. Still, it didn't help any that school buses were actually closer in color to orange than yellow, which is how most people describe school buses..."yellow." 😝

What bothers me is Ford offers the same color in different shades. Area 51, Azure gray...they are almost the same color. Carbon gray, silver metallic.......they are almost the same color. Cactus gray drops between those but again its a very similar color tone. Ford needs to offer bolder more exciting colors from different areas of the color chart for the Bronco.
