Remember calling Ma Bell to have a phone installed, when running the lines and hooking up four color-coded wires was actually as simple as could be?

Not many serious trails in Massachusetts. I'd rate Northampton's "Ma Bell" trail (named because it's not a road, but a hillside cut made for a phone pole line) a 2.5 out of 5, a good first experience for off-roading. Jump to 5:55, and you see what makes New England trails interesting: he very irregularly sized and located rocks left by glacial debris and erosion. Working between the sidewalls of this tight ravine is tricky, and every visit is different because of erosion.

The Jeepster wimped out on slickrock ledges at 6:15; my Squatch Badlands 4DR handled it okay. Because of expanded work-arounds, the locals (Northampton is a very eco-liberal town) keep threatening to close the Ma Bell down to off-roaders.

Yup, that's what happens when you create bypasses, you give them all the ammo they need to shut down a trail.
