Best ways to rack up FordPass Rewards points before the Bronco gets here?

I'm currently driving a non-Ford sedan and plan on trading it in or selling it before the Bronco gets here. With so much up in the air with the delivery dates, I'm exploring ways to maximize savings.

Between my husband and I, we currently have a classic Chevy pickup and a VW Passat. Where we live and what we do for a living demands we have at least one 4x4. We're selling the Chevy too and replacing it with a cheap new sedan. I'm considering buying a new Ranger or Bronco Sport before this summer that'll stay low on miles and act as a placeholder until the Bronco gets here. That way I:
1- start building FPR points
2- have a vehicle without negative equity to trade and
3- have a 4x4 to keep me going without worrying when the Bronco will arrive

Also considering getting the Ford credit card, but I'd need to talk to a financial advisor first about that.

The bottom line... who's had experience building FordPass points to use towards a new vehicle purchase? Do you think it's worth it or not?

@BuzzyBud was the 1st guy on these boards to look into the Ford credit card so he might have some insight.
I've never really looked into it because I have one hotel card for points and an airline card for miles. I really don't need another card.
Although it will be nice to have the Fordpass points to use for oil changes and accessories.

I have a 2016 F150 and use my local Ford dealer for all service and tires. My Ford dealer allows me to earn and redeem FordPass Reward Points. (It is my understanding some Ford dealers do not participate in the program.) I am also running the FordPass app on my phone and I use the FordPass Credit Card. I enjoy the program.

If you decide to participate in the program, the following would be important actions.
  • Verify that your Ford dealer participates.
  • Load the app on your phone and link it to your vehicle.
  • Use the app to track points earned and redeemed.
As you probably know, if you buy a 2021 Bronco you receive 42,000 points plus an additional 20,000 bonus points if you have been a reservation holder. I guess the bonus is a reward for your understanding during this challenging rollout.

The app can also enable other activities, such as “My Journeys”. I believe knowledge of this function may serve a purpose later when the Bronco Trail Maps function is better understood. Currently, it seems to focus more on aid to electric vehicles the way it tracks three key metrics.

The credit card can help load up your bank of reward points. After receiving the card, I made a purchase which generated 11, 000 in my point bank. Keep in mind each point is only equal to one half of one cent. Also, there can be a time limit on how long you are able to keep points in your bank. Last year they expanded that time limit due to the pandemic, not sure what Ford is planning in 2021 regarding the time limit. These are unusual times!

Hope this is helpful. Circle back if questions arise.
