Best Hard Top option

21 White Sasquatch OB on 37s

Jan 09, 2024

Hoping someone can save me some time and leg work. I have a 21 Bronco and I want to switch from my soft top to a hard top. I originally ordered a hard top and then took Ford's offer to change to a soft top so I wouldn't have to wait as long to get my new Bronco. Anybody know what my best option is for obtaining a hard top (factory or aftermarket)??

I guess the real question is what level of modularity do you want? If you want the same pieces as factory, then Anderson Composites is the way to go unless you can find a used OEM one for a decent price. If I was just wanting one with only the front panels are removable, I'd probably go with Turn Offroad. If you want just one solid piece, then ADV is your best choice. The more removable panels you have, the more squeaks and noise you're going to have, so there is a tradeoff.

Here is a video review we did on the Anderson Composites top. We were one of the first ones to get one back in early April of last year.

I think TOR is a good compromise, just one removable panel instead of three.

They F'd it up by choosing Webasto, who is supposedly a good manufacturer of hard tops. Also, probably told them they wanted to reduce the weight as much as possible.

I've owned an '84,'92, & '93 Bronco. Every one of those tops were great. Probably solid if not close to solid fiberglass. Which I wish Ford would've done this time around.

Ahh found the pic. I had 79 XLT and a 84 Eddie Bauer, I loved the 79, top was so easy to take on and off 1 person could do it (i was a lot younger back then)

I went with a soft top to get my Bronco sooner. I would have liked a hard top, but no regrets. I got to try out a soft top for awhile and its been fun. I'm scheduled with TOR for a Feb 6th ship date. $4500 for a good quality hard top is not out of line in my opinion. Remember its 2024 and we are paying with Monopoly money!
Yep if anyone can get a GOOD quality hardtop delivered for $4500 than that’s not
horrible.

My top is perfect and it came for $0 upgrade.
But then again I had to settle for a 2dr Sasquatch that would cost me $10,000 more if I had to order the same one today.
Timing is everything.😃

Yeah my build (Base 4Dr) would costs $10,000 more today too. Glad I got it when I did! Rumor has it that TOR is planning on coming out with a 2dr top, so you may have options down the road. I agree if the OEM top is working out stay with it.

My TOR top is shipping today or tomorrow. Will post pics as soon as I get it on there. I was one of the first ADV orders back in Feb 22. Thats right nearly two years ago lol. You had to pay in full at ordering and I was out over $6k until I finally cancelled this past Oct after so many delays misleading info. Wanted the one piece really bad but when TOR came around at nearly $2k less and is going to deliver before ADV it was a no brainer. I chose the soft top to get it earlier and it worked. Been enjoying my Bronco since 10/21 and I'd trade that time for the extra money I'm spending to get a hardtop any day of the week. Once I sell the soft top to a buyer I already have lined up for $1100 plus the $695 savings from not waiting and purchasing the factory hard top I'm out less than $3k for a superior (hopefully) to OEM hardtop.

So, I literally just bought a 22 Wildtrak yesterday & it's a soft top.
I was just looking through some forums today & came across this & the idea of a 4k hard top seems like an intriguing idea.
Am I crazy to think that doing like a summer/winter thing & switching to a hard top for winter only is a good idea?
I haven't even looked into difficulty in removing them, but I'm thinking if it's only 2x a year you're swapping them, take a day, have a buddy over to help & drink beer & you get the best of both worlds?

Yah depending on your climate. Where I live a person certainly doesn’t need or want a soft top for 5-6 months of the year.

What about storing the hard top? Have enough room, or maybe one of those overhead things to lift it up and hold it?

You could also look into the liner and only keep the soft top, much cheaper! Can't put the first section back with the liner in place, but it is easy to take off/put on once you do the initial install, from a video I've seen.

I'm in western PA. There's zero chance the soft top would be open from end of October through at least mid April I'd say.

IMO any of the aftermarket plastic tops surface texture looks like ass (painted with undercoating -lol) and no better than the OEM top.

The whole MIC top issue started because someone waxed their top and snake skin showed up. Only in the right light and angle. Then macroscopic pics of the edges with slight voids on the sealed edges.

Over reactions from people with no knowledge of plastics or plastic part design, construction, or manufacturing.

Pretty sure there is more to it then that... Even Ford acknowledge the issues with a recall.. Here's a sample I found in 10 seconds

Yup, Ford basically took over Webasto's operation to get the manufacturing quality up to standards. Most of us know the story. I'm not going to relitigate how COVID played into it nor the property management company that delayed Webasto's manufacturing facility. The top wasn't perfect out of the gate. 2 years later it's the best option.

I think it is also obvious that even the aftermarket has had trouble with the Bronco top. The OEM is lightweight, has multiple roof sections, and a better finish.

ADV turned out to be a scam. Took your money and now they say they cannot produce and good luck getting the money back and contact your credit card to see if they can help.

Did you have an ADV top on order? Hoping you already got a refund processed if so.

I did have an order with ADV and used my discover card. Request is in for dispute. I bet they don't have money for those refunds. The court docs were interesting read.
