Ford keeps the assembly line running. If they are short on parts, they still build those units. Then they park those units missing parts in holding lots. When the missing parts come in, they continue to keep the assembly line running instead of installing those parts on the vehicles that are already built.

By doing this, they have less vehicles to work on for the parts shortages. “If” they have extra parts, they work on the vehicles that are already built and waiting on parts. Usually when they have their shut downs is when they really tackle the back log of vehicles waiting parts.

This may be one reason...

I don't work for Ford, but it must be a logistical nightmare to stage units for dispersal across the US. Not making excuses for anyone, but I think it's probably a complicated process, involving a lot of factors.

With that said, my Bronco was shipped within a week of being built. It didn't require the installation of extra components or have any graphics or PPF applied, so maybe it was ready to roll once it was assembled. Maybe there were a lot of other vehicles in the same condition heading in the same direction. They probably don't want to release a train until it's completely full, so they can make the most of their runs. I'm not sure why I was sent on my way while others were not.

I know this doesn't help, but I do sympathize with you and your situation. I hope you're on your way soon!

Yes, shortage of workers. Why would you want to work when the government is paying you not to work? I was designated as an essential worker. I worked straight through the pandemic. Luckily, never got Covid, but didn't get any stimulus checks or anything else. I was glad to be working, because I would've lost my mind being home for 2 years!

Ford wants to ship vehicles as soon as they are released. Ford doesn't get paid for them sitting in adjacent lots. While they exists a shortage of both rail and truck workers, the logistics of loading railcars and transport trucks with similar destinations prevails to save money. The last thing a customer would want is their new vehicle sitting unloaded at a Chicago switchyard.

It is still hard to understand that they can make a vehicle and not have a path to deliver it. Built 11/23 and still sitting at a Ford plant waiting for shipping. Yet, some Broncos ship right away. It's like I am not even in line to be shipped. Disappointing.

I think what people need to understand is there is a normal shipping delay built into the delivery model. It's not like a freshly completed Bronco gets its baby pic taken then rolls off the assembly line right on to a transport truck to the rail yard or to the dealership destination. There is a logistics process in the middle. It takes a few weeks to ship a vehicle under normal circumstances, but the customer who normally buys off the lot never sees logistics side of the delivery because the car is already on the dealer's lot. The Bronco ordering process brings the logistics side to light. It's now more complicated because COVID effed EVERYTHING up.

In my case my Bronco was built in January 2022 and it took until late July to get delivered to my dealer via convoy. Ford info indicated it was thru final production as of early March. So, 5 months to ship less 3-weeks I figure is normal logistics time.
Any yet... some Broncos are made and shipped within a few days. I don't know the issue, but 5 months for shipping seems excessive. It's not necessarily the shipping... it's that it is very random who ships and who waits. It is very random that my delivery window changes every 2 weeks. Make a list of Broncos and spots on the train... put my Bronco in line to wait it's turn and then tell me when she will come. How can it not be that organized???

I'm a Ford Advanced Engineering retiree, and I have been helping Forum folks understand the assembly plant process. There is hardly a truck plant I haven't been to, and help execute the launches. Right now, I'm tracking about 10 Broncos that have been SHIPPED, but even every one of those have arrival dates that are being deferred.

Well... I hope those Broncos can find their way ... I would at least like to be shipped ... For now, I will wait with the rest of the herd. =)

All the same issues that have been going on for the last 2 1/2 years are still in play. Supply chain issues, commodities and parts backlogs, rail shipping delays and backlogs, freight shipping shortages, lack of workers, trucking shortages. Look at your local grocery stores. Many, many shortages. And it IS better than it was.

My first truck took 16 weeks from built to get to me had a chip hold. The second took 14 weeks no chip hold a freight delay from rail. Once built it can take a while, I believe norm used to be 4-8 weeks.
