Anyone install an ARB Twin compressor and connect it to aux switch?

I've got the ARB twin compressor and underhood mount kit from @4x4TruckLEDs - and am doing my homework for the install - but I can't find any videos for how to hook it up using the factory aux switches.. I just realized that the highest amp switch is rated for up to 30amps, but the compressor has a max draw of 50amps.. so it's looking like I won't be able to use an aux switch for this - is there a way around that?

The answer to these questions is always: use a relay.

Get a cheap 50A (or bigger) 12v automotive relay like this, and wire it with #6 or bigger wire directly to the battery (through a fuse). Switch the relay with one of the Aux switches.

Has anyone traced the 30 amp switch one wiring to the driver side firewall?

A video showing removal of non- accessory and installation shows thin wires and relays under power distribution box ,but no fuse, the installer gave up due to complexity of fuse and relay engine box.

A 30 amp and 15 should use 10 and 12 ga. wiring, but Ford says 1.5 ISO (16ga) so does auxiliary switches go into relays?

I cut and pasted this from a post where I had same question. This was Mal's reply to my post:

The Arb set up uses a relay, so that switch can be replaced. In this video, they cut the ARB harness and wire it direct to Upfitter 6. Futzing about with the wiring starts around 6:30 and they cut the harness around 8:20.

Save that heavy Amp switch for the light bar.

Thanks. Install was pretty easy. Got it mounted and wiring routed, but don’t have the 8awg terminal connectors (why didn’t it come with them?). I’ll pick those up tomorrow and get it all wrapped up in about 5 minutes.

I'm glad you're asking all the questions I was going to ask, Mark. I'm following along in your build because you seem to be addressing many of the things I'm expecting to encounter during my own build.

I'll be happy to help with anything I do, that you may also end up doing. At first, the aux switches confused the hell out of me - but I think I'm getting it. I still don't see how that yellow wire is capable of a 30Amp load though! Luckily the trigger wire for the compressor isn't a high amp load, so I can just run it to one of the low amp aux switches.

this is also a great video on the install.
I like TrailRecon's videos quite a bit. Always trust the Master Chief, especially if they are a Corpsman.
I like the vertical mount he uses quite a bit. But the one that 4x4led has is a lot more accessible. Decisions decisions...

I bought the vertical mount in Trail Recons video and was originally going to plug air hose in under hood. Now I have decided to run line to rear and mount hose coupling to left side of bumper. Going to use aux 6 for switch. That way I don't have to open hood to air up. My four tire air set up will be stored in back so it will be convenient to just flip aux switch, get out, open tail gate, snap in, hook up and air.

Here is how I wired my ARB pump.

1. The Aux switch is used as a signal or trigger switch that enables the ARB switch next to the pump. ( This requires I think 8 amps from ARB,
Therefore any of the 10 amp Aux switch’s will work).
Note: **** the main 30/50 amps to drive the pumps is coming from two large amp fuses via the Battery included with the ARB wiring harness)

Also… it lights up the ARB switch to let you know it is “enabled” (see pic).

Why????
It is paramount that you have the engine running when you start up your ARB pump….
This will save your battery…the Aux switch ONLY works with the engine running.
Using the Aux this way acts as a Safeguard against accidentally turning on your pump without the engine running…(which is easy to do)

2… the pump is wired directly to the battery via a relay that comes with the switch.

3… the ARB switch controls the pump
(Wired plug and play as per the ARB directions).

Also… I originally ran with the air outlet on the pump located at an angle (as everyone does in the videos) and discovered that my roof insulation felt was hitting the valve….(not cool!!!😡)

**** (side note) Not that you need to… but I relocated my outlet valve and switch…. I purchased the switch mount bracket kit from the makers of the pump bracket… now nothing comes close to my hood insulation…
