I've been mulling this over for some time, do I go with a 2dr or a 4dr, can't make up my mind and don't want to buy until I've done just that.
Does the 4dr have a better stability for overlanding? or would the 2dr be more stable with a less lengthy chassy? I dont expect to need the space of the 4dr, I could always put a cargo box on top or a hitch rack if needed with a 2dr.

Opinions? facts? thoughts? help a brother out lol.

I originally wanted a 2 door, they do look better. Went with a four door due to constraints at the time, glad I did. Went camping with my parents and siblings almost didn't have enough space in both 4 door broncos for all the gear for 6 people and a dog.IMG-20220820-WA0021.jpg

GrandchildNumber 6 arrives this summer…‘nuff said!

(owned a 2 door ‘70 Bronco with two boys…. WHAT A PAIN (though I loved the rig)
You can't fit them all in one Bronco anyway, so might as go with the one you love. And you know you love the 2-door! 💀

If you've noticed from the replies, the people opting for the Bronco XL are doing it for space reasons. Most seem to say they would prefer the Bronco if it could work for their use case.

Someone mentioned the Bronco possibly being less smooth or comfortable or stable on-road as the Bronco XL. I only have experience with the Bronco, so I can't compare, but I can say that the ride is much better than I expected, and not at all rough, uncomfortable or unstable. I have zero issues with its on-road manners. Off-road, in many use cases, you get more advantages from the Bronco vs. XL, but if you aren't doing more difficult rock crawling or fording obstacles, (think Moab), it may not matter to you. I suspect that your tire choice will be a larger factor (did I mention I have the Badlands with the KO2s?) Sasquatch on Bronco XL probably is no more comfortable (possibly less) than my Badlands. But Outer Banks is probably noticeably better. Oh, yeah, don't forget that Badlands has an upgraded suspension. I suspect that plays a large part as well. A Bronco XL Black Diamond Sasquatch probably doesn't ride as well as my Badlands.

As mentioned, the biggest things I've given up are cargo space behind the second row and gas tank capacity. On the former, we've had 3 adults and a pre-teen on a 5-day road trip and everything fit. Another 5-day trip with just three adults gave us even more room. I'd say you could go with a week's worth of clothes unless you start packing a lot of recovery gear inside, in which case you might want to look at relocating recovery gear.

As far as fuel capacity goes, we have found that people usually want to fill up prior to doing any heavy off-roading just for peace of mind, so there was no scenario where we needed to fill up that others didn't want to, anyway. And let's face it, if you are using 16 gallons before getting back to civilization, you're out there! I thought about having getting gas cans, but so far, my use cases haven't justified it.

Having only two doors means when there are more than two people, someone must get in the back through the front doors. We've all done it in ours--mom, dad, adult and younger kids. It requires a couple of times to decide how best to do it, but I can get in easily with a step on the sill, a step on the floor in the back, and then sit down. And there's more than enough room for my 6' self. When I'm in the back, my wife is hesitant to put the seat further back because she thinks I don't have room. I keep telling her, "Keep coming, back, I've got plenty of room!" 😁 There's no difference in row-2 leg room in Bronco vs. Bronco XL. and there's more width per passenger since there are only two in back, so it's actually more comfortable than Bronco XL with three people.

The bottom line is, if none of the above sways you to Bronco XL, get Bronco and also save some money! 🙂

Let me start by admitting I made the choice for a 4 door Bronco. You really can't go wrong either way, they are just different trad-offs. There are just two of us in the family, and as someone mentioned above, I did it mainly for the space. But, we do occasionally have other people that ride with us, so having that additional space behind the rear seats to store recovery gear, etc. is really nice. A lot depends on what you use your Bronco for. Personally, I like to take it off road, and try to get out at least once per month, weather permitting. I don't do extreme rock crawling. Usually 1-5 rated trails is it fr me. Also, no overlanding for me, but if that's what you are planning, then I would certainly opt for the 4 door to get that additional storage capacity. YES you can put it on the roof, but that has its downsides such as raising your center of gravity even more etc. I also bought the Ford "trunk" so that I would have a secure space in the back, as well as a place to put stuff that might blow away when I have the top down/off. In the end, I'm very happy with my 4-door.

As an aside, I am old enough to remember when Jeep introduced the 4-door Wrangler. Jeep purists HATED it, said real Jeeps only have 2 doors, etc. etc. Sound familiar? 😎

I am a simple man. I think the 2 door looks way better. So I bought it. Do the kids have to push back the seat and squoosh into the rear? Yes. Do they mind? No.

I just got the 2dr with manual tranny. Cooler looking, more unique, more retro. The ride is fine. If you have a family that will use it regularly and it’s your primary car get the 4dr. I have a Defender 110 for that. I’ve only had it for a few weeks but the 2dr is a great choice

The wife and I never even considered a more door Bronco. They just do not look right to me. The styling kinda blends in with all the other SUVs IMO. I had a Jeep CJ when we were dating back in 1980 and then a '92 O.J. White Bronco that we bought in '95. We started hard core motorcycle riding in 2000 and the new Bronco will be our re-entry into the world of off-roading adventures. 20 years of packing for long trips on the motorcycle teaches you a few things about what you really need to pack and how to pack it . 5-10 day trips for the two of us on a bike was no problem so the 2 dr Bronco will be a breeze :)

Have a 2 door and love it. Agree with the person who said it turns on a dime, and it's easy to park. My 2 door also has the turbo engine, which is amazing. I'm an empty nester so I'm no longer hauling kids.

Possible downside: I do find myself just keeping one or both of the back seats folded down to haul gear/groceries. Moving the seats forward is a pain in the arse and the area behind the back seats is tiny.

I have a 2dr, and I love it. On the downside it is more difficult to get items that are in the back seat, or for people to get in the back Seat. If you have the rear seats folded down it's not hard to access the cargo. The ride might be a little rougher due to the shorter wheelbase. Others may have more to say, but I love mine. 😊
Bought the 2dr. Badlands SAS and love it providing no one needs to enter into the back seat.
IMO, 4dr. jeeps, broncos etc. are just not as nice looking as 2dr. - to each their own!

I have the 2dr BL SAS. Love it. I've owned 2dr TJs and moved into a 4dr JK when my kids got bigger and needed the space. Now, they have their own cars and we have an Explorer & Suburban if we need to haul people. My BL is my daily and it's the best.

FWIW, my eldest and I went on an 8-day, 2700-mile road/camping trip in my 2dr and had plenty of room for all our gear.

2drs, because I wanted a real bronco, not a Flex with a removable roof. I'm young and single, why get a family car?

Jokes aside, I'm sure a 4dr would be slightly more stable, but I got no issues stability wise and I toss her around at times, even have the tires squeal around turns.

No issues, just enjoying her

For context, I've got a malamute (108lb pupper), live where the cold hurts my face (sometimes colder than siberia), love weekends camping away. Typically have a tent and some hiking gear, some camping gear, wouldnt be opposed to a roof cargo carrier or hitch carrier for extra storage space if needed. I like the size of what I drive now and fear that a 4dr would be TOO big for my daily use. My current daily is the size of a 2dr. I don't even want to entertain the thought of a sport because I just dont like the look.

The trick to extended motorcycle road trips is pack for half the time, then find a nice hotel mid-trip stay for a day (off the bike) and do laundry...

If you can, I would suggest actually driving both…. I think there are enough of them out there now that you might, depending on your locale, be able to find one of each to test drive…

Thinking of your pup, depends a little on where he/she rides when traveling… if in the way back, there have been numerous posts about having to work around hitches and stuff to swing the gate open for entry/exit. If riding in the back seat, 4 doors may ease the entry/exit process but the 2dr will certainly work for you.

Is your current 2dr-sized daily driver tall like the bronco or down on the ground further? My Bronco is just about as tall as my F150, so again, would recommend getting behind the wheel of both before plopping down $50-60K for the rig… (full disclosure, I bought my 4dr having never even sitting behind the wheel…)

I don’t think you can lose either way. Good Luck in your search!
