2 Door Extravaganza! Capitol State Forest

Met up with @OrangecrushBronco and @BuckYeah for a day of off-road fun! We met at the Capitol State Forrest area in Washington State and spent the day exploring the trails. We hit several unmapped / unknown trails and a few of the areas main trails that had previously been mapped.

All of us were rocking 2DR Broncos which was actually pretty cool.

Most of the trails were easy but they were still a complete blast! I did need to break out my chainsaw several times on a few of the unmapped and unknown trails we hit. Chainsaw for the win!

The trails ranged from wide and dusty gravel to narrow and overgrown dirt pack. We also hit one or 2 that were narrow'ish with loose rock.

Several miles away from civilization, and on a small dead end and unmapped trail in the deep forest, @BuckYeah had an issue with a flat that needed to be addressed on the trail. It was knocked out and back on the trails we went.

Overall this was a complete blast and I had loads of fun!

@raqball, Thanks for hosting a GREAT day of off-roading! I thoroughly enjoyed participating in this excursion. Even the flat wasn't a big deal. It's good to know the factory jack is usable on a hard-packed forest floor (a heavy-duty plastic base that helped distribute the weight). Kudos to @OrangecrushBronco for providing that and a couple of wheel chocks; it ensured a safe and swift tire swap!

The day, the weather, and the terrain were PERFECT! Enjoying lunch in the woods is always amazing. I snapped a few pix of the scenery my Bronco enabled me to enjoy today. Thank you, Ford! 😎

It's a good thing that 'Eagle Eye' Jeremy noticed your tire extremely low and called it out. Jeremy also served as our 'on the trail gear boss' as he had absolutely everything we needed to get the job done.

We could have used my tire repair kit but I think the swap to the spare was the best choice.

I'll be sure to get a fridge magnet from the gift shop next time. 😉 As for the 1-star Yelp review, my finger must've slipped. I meant to give you 5 stars, honest! I had a blast exploring the forest. A totally amazing day outdoors, my friend.

None of us were completely sure.

My guess is that it was a rose thorn (is that the correct word for them?) as it was a very small puncture hole and they were abundant on the sides of that trail. Might have been one laying on the trail that punctured the tire as he rolled over it..

We're not sure. If I were a betting person my money would be manufacturer defect. Not the most common thing but it does happen. It was a brand new tire and given the leak and location it looks like a split not a puncture, but I'm not a tire whisperer. There really wasn't anything we drove over that would have caused that. We did clean up a disgraceful abandoned campsite but we didn't park on the trash.

We did clean up a disgraceful abandoned campsite but we didn't park on the trash.

I don't think it was that slob camp site we cleaned up. The air was shooting out of that tire at a pretty high rate, even when it was down to 5 PSI.. It had to be something that happened pretty recent to you noticing his tire was abnormally low.. As fast as the air was spewing out, I'd guess 5 minutes or so, max, would have passed from the actual failure.

But I am just guessing since there was nothing stuck in the tire to help ID what the cause could have been.

Maybe the tire shop can pass some insight along to Chris when he gets it patched.

And... Awesome photos. Your's are so much better than mine!

I don't know the photos look pretty much the same to me. I think Chris got some pictures of the scenery. I just took photos when we stopped.

Sniper fire, me thinks. We heard gunshots in the distance. 🤪

Seriously, I’m not sure. We pulled into a few makeshift camp sites that some dirtbags used for target practice, and being the adults in the room, set a good example by picking up after the effing slobs, filling garbage bags with their spent ammo, food containers and first aid supplies. The only silver lining is that they may have injured themselves. Oops! Did I say that? 🤪

Still, I could’ve done without the damage to my tire. Oh well, it’s a small price to pay. Had a blast regardless.
