Trying to get accurate information about the 2.7L engine failure. Been reading some questionable articles, friends are asking me if my Bronco has seized yet. I took receipt of my Bronco September of 2021. I have over 4000 miles on it and running strong. Just trying to get more details and if anyone within the Bronco nation has been effected.

So did your 2.7L fail or not? If not, drive it like you stole it. Otherwise, sorry.

From what I understand the issue is a batch of "bad" valves, thus not affecting all engines produced. I could be wrong, and I'm sure someone will correct me if that's the case.

That same engine has been used on a huge amount of F150's. Yes, it the failure is limited to a small segment of build date range.

@ChuckO linked to the main thread about it.

TL;DR— Issue is related to dropped valves, and when it happens it destroys the engine. Government is investigating it… they may call for a recall, or they may not, we don’t know… depends on the result of the investigation. In the mean time drive it normally, and if it breaks, have it fixed under warranty. Nothing else you can do.

It’s an isolated problem. The 2.7 is a proven engine. No worries.

It's related to the valves, but isn't there also an oil pan issue? The valve issue is limited to a six month range (is that considered isolated?), more or less (May - Dec, per B6G)? The pan issue is related to all 2.7 in the Bronco, as is the coolant hose, right?

I thought it was regarding 1) If at a far from level position, the oil intake can be sucking air 2) Some engines ended up with the wrong dipstick. Again, if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.

I'm not being contrary, as I'm not certain, except a vehicle marketed in such a way as the Bronco should not suck air when not level.

I read it has 25K plus involved. And like 54 total have openly talked about Engine Failure online. Will be interesting to see if is 25k recalled in the end.

The 2.7 had a engine build window from July 21-Oct 21 where they had some bad valves installed. That caused a good chunk of those engines in that window to fail. They caught the issue at the plant and fixed it, and there haven’t been any issues that I’ve heard of since. If you’re concerned, you can check the Julian date on your engine. Thats found on a little white sticker on the top of your engine. It’ll have a long number and a little QR code thing. The first 5 digits of the number are what you’re looking for. It’ll start with 21 or 22 followed by the number day of that year. For example, mine is 21341 meaning my engine was built on the 341st day of 2021 which is Tues Dec 7th. If your number starts with 22, don’t worry about it. If it starts with 21, then check the day and if it’s in the fall, then you might have some concern.

If you starting poking around on the web and forums, there are 2.3l with turbo issues, not to the extent of the 2.7l lifter issue though. If you don't have possession of a 2.7l, it's going to be built way after the window of troubled builds. I've got almost 5k miles in 2 months on our 2.7l, it's been great, better mpg than advertised or expected as well.
