If I were to win the lottery you better bet I'd have an OG Bronco, OG Scout and an OG FJ40..

As it is, I am a meager retiree who can't afford more than the Bronco I have..

If you are buying, I can send you an OG Scout auction that you can bid on for me.. 😁 😂 👍

The only thing I can afford, is to pay attention...
Otherwise we gonna be walking....

It does not..

If companies are going to bring back iconic names, at least try and make it resemble the OG version.. Ford did a great job of this with the 1G --> 6G Bronco.

This new Scout? It is not even remotely close to the original Scout.. Massive swing and miss in my book..

Looks like a bad copy of a sport.
I might reserve one.NOT

A little more to the Story…
Stellantis is set to lay off more than 2,000 workers at a plant outside Detroit to wind down its production of the classic Ram 1500 truck. The plant, located in Warren, Michigan, will continue to be equipped for Jeep Wagoneer production on a one-shift production pattern. Laid off union workers will receive supplemental unemployment benefits and transition assistance for the next year.

These give away programs do nothing but attract abuse.I think all the people that took subsidy money to buy EVs should have to pay it back.Just like student loans.

It’s been said if you want to run a program in the most inefficient way, turn it over to the government. We like to say we believe in a free market and free enterprise, but virtually every industry in its infancy has depended on government help to get it off the ground, and some have never been removed from the government teet. Big business learned long ago to refuse to take on the risk of new technologies and ideas without some help from the government…

A quick list…
Many industries receive government subsidies, including:
-Agriculture- The US government heavily subsidizes the agricultural sector with cash payments, loans, and insurance. -Energy- The government provides grants to companies developing energy sources, issues bonds for power facilities, and imposes tariffs on biofuels.
-Transportation- The government provides cash payments, infrastructure funding, and tax incentives to transportation companies.
-Electric vehicles- In 2023, the electric vehicle and battery production industry was the most heavily subsidized. -Pharmaceuticals- The US pharmaceutical industry has benefited from federal support for life sciences research. -Fisheries- Well-targeted subsidies can help ensure the health of fish stocks and ecosystems.

Other industries that have been subsidized include:
housing, mining, tobacco, steel, alcohol, weapons, and textiles.
Governments subsidize industries based on national priorities and politics. The level of subsidization that nations tolerate varies based on their political leanings

Ford also made the 2dr Bronco which def resembles a modern look of the OG 1st Gen. The 4dr version is a sign of the times and competition. Can't blame Ford for that and the 4dr still resembles an OG Bronco, looks and design wise. Yes the 2dr is a closer representation, but the 4dr is close..

Next, it looks nothing like an OG Scout. It's not even close! Don't get me wrong, it's a cool vehicle but it should have never been named the Scout, as it's not even close to a Scout..

I'd argue they could have kept the design as close to an OG Scout as possible while still adding modern day motors and amenities. They didn't even try..

Why is it even call it a Scout?

Why?… because they’re scouting for a charging station!!!🤣🤣🤣🐎

Wow never heard such anti American rethoric. But then again...

Been in manufacturing for close to half a century, constantly looking at new technology and developing new things all without any input or "help" from the government.you are dead wrong

So retro or iconic styling.... for Ford this started with Mustang. In 2005 they introduced what many call the 5th generation, although in my mind the 1st gen is really two or even 3 different generations. Anyway this was huge and people loved it, even though it only sort of resembled a 65-66 fast back. In following years, with the 6g they changed the lines very similar to the changes seen in 67, 68, 69, etc., although they did not make them wildly longer/wider, a little wider and lower. 7th gen, further refining the retro template to an even sportier, some may say Japanese sports car look. Did they do a mustang II throwback or a fox body, no, well maybe the Mach-E is the Mustang II throwback.....

Gen2 Broncos, many don't know these 'full sized' broncos were intended to debut as 1976 model year vehicles, but due to higher fuel cost and the economic situation Ford continued building the small Gen 1 platform. The Gen2 bronco is one of the best selling broncos of all time, even though it only lasted for two years. Modeled after the F100 series of the time, the bronco continued to evolve along the full size truck. We won't talk about the bronco 2 and the evolution of the Explorer.

Will the 7g bronco get much much bigger like a full sized truck, maybe, but not likely. Will it get bigger, I think there is a good chance a few inches will be added here and there.

Scouts..... well, I think the new one resembles the old scouts some. I get more hummer cues from the front end than rivian. It does not resemble the lifted, and cut up, highly modified scouts you see on the road. Imagine if the 6g bronco truly resembled the 1st gen, with enclosed rear fenders, etc. I still think they should have given us a good drop down tailgate instead of just copying jeeps swing gate.

I think the 2005 Mustang was perfectly executed as a Retromod model. I think it was exactly how the Gen 1 Mustang would have progressed through the years to 2005. Equally, I think the Gen 6 Bronco is a perfect execution of how the Gen 1 Bronco would have progress to 2020.

But the Bronco II and Ranger of the mid 1980's (Gen 1's ?) looked very much like the Gen 1 Bronco and I think that was Ford's idea to make both look so. It was Retromod before issuing revamps of legacy models was a marketing idea. I owned a 1987 Ranger STX, which I think in the back of my mind I favored because of the similarity to the Gen 1 Bronco. Study the Gen 1 Ranger/Bronco II front fender design in comparison to the Gen 1 Bronco and Gen 6 Bronco and the similarities are evident. I also think it is fair to say Volkswagen started the Retromod trend with the re-issue of the (New) Beetle in 1997.

But your examples are not of "industries in their infacies to help them get off the ground". Your examples are of mature industries that are competing in a global market. The EV sector I mostly agree with your position.

Having spent most of my career in the manufacturing technology sector selling product to the Feds, my view is the Fed is much more reliant on profit-motovated companies developing technology rather than the companies relying on the Federal government for financial support.

In fact, I'll put forth the position that the Govenment is a large factor in the offshoring of many industries over the past 45 years due to its financial impact (taxes) and environmental/safety regulations that make it too expensive to manufacture on shore in the US.

Agree with the New Beetle. It should have been a flat-rear-engined platform, but that would have stepped all over the 911. The SN95 Mustang at least kept its Ponycar roots.

Actually the 911 is just a hotrod beetle or beetle on steroids.Used to laugh at the fanboys in the 80s with the bent antennas and bras on them.

Fair point
However, I believe transportation and energy industries were incentivized to explore and develop infrastructure at the start of the industrial age, and big pharma is always working in government grants and such… there is considerable synergy between corporations and government, i think

They don’t offer a PHEV option - it’s EREV (Extended Range) so there is an onboard gas motor that charges the battery to extend the range. Additionally, the SUV touts 7,000 lb tow capacity (10K for the pick up) & 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.

The question is, if I'm towing 7K lbs how much range do I have?

I kinda agree. The fact that big business was able to lobby the government for huge tax breaks for moving manufacturing offshore enabled a lot of that move. But the fact of the matter is that US employee pay can't possibly compete with the slave wages paid overseas. Or in the case of China, actual slave labor. not to mention child labor. As for environmental/safety regulations, yup, all that pesky need for clean air/water and safe working conditions defiantly drives up the cost of manufacturing.
