Hey team, I'm deciding whether I should get a four-cylinder or the V6 could you guys please provide some feedback on what you feel about each model or if there's a big difference between the four-cylinder and the V6… I know the horsepower and torque ratings…but wanted to hear from some owners who have tried both.. I am looking at the Outer Banks, four-door, hardtop Sasquatch with the four-cylinder. It saves a couple grand going with the 4cyl.. and didn't know if there was gonna be that much difference… I mainly will be driving it on the highway but I do wanna take it off Roading as well thank you.

there was/is a thread here where people were having issues with the brakes /brake booster specifically, the problem was usually at highway speeds using cruise and then try to hit the brakes the booster just wouldn't be there. the work around was to turn off cruise then use the brakes. The Fix was a replacement vacuum line. But I believe this was an early MY issue.
That said, I do have the spongy brake pedal. but it stops fine and no worries on Hells Revenge.

Was there a TSB or a recall or did Ford just quietly fix the problem for those with the issue and on the later year models?

I am all for goofing off and having fun but you are telling people that the brake boosters on the 2.3L are an issue (and potential deadly issue at that) and that they have been an issue for a long time.

I assume if true, there would be a TSB or a recall for them by now. At the very least there would be posts on Bronco forums about the dangers of these boosters on the 2.3L..

Sorry, I don't do the whole friend of a friend said so type thing..

I did not care for the mushy brakes on my 2020 Ranger but I lived with them knowing I was going to trade it in when the Bronco finally arrived. The brakes are a well-known issue on the Ranger forum. Not sure about the Broncos .

I assume if it were that large of an issue on the Bronco (not Rangers) then there would be numerous threads on the topic. I've not seen a single one.

It's possible the early Broncos suffered from the issue and Ford corrected it???

The inference made was that I have my head buried in the sand so all I am asking for is a TSB or a recall on this issue as it relates to the Bronco.. Or at the very least, a Bronco thread link where there are numerous replies from others saying they have the issue.

It's not been an issue on my 2023...

Awesome, thank you. 👍

So 2021 Broncos only then?

Not sure why it was called out in this thread if it's a 2021 issue unless the issue was never properly resolved and / or it still happens on later year Bronco models..

My 2023 has been fine. 🤷

Yeah i think that was the one I was talking about. it seems it was an early Bronco issue. definitely not a wide spread issue like the 6.0L Powerstroke by any means but it does exist. and the soft pedal is kinda a known thing with the Ranger and now Bronco (bronco sharing the Ranger bits) but I did find this. My brakes just started the mushy feeling about 4 months ago (my wife drive the bronco daily) they were normal before that.

👍

So do late model Rangers still have this issue? If it's a 2021 and prior issue then cool but not really relevant anymore unless someone is purchasing a used 2021 Bronco..

I've never had a Ranger and don't follow them and their issues.

Appears to be irrelevant for post 2021 Bronco models so I am trying to figure out why it's even here, as a warning to the OP, about the 2.3L..

The previous issue is gone.....but from day one always thought the brake pedal was soft. I'm more curious if it firms up the pedal. Otherwise I have no issues with the brakes and I'm one to get to know my ride and how each one reacts. Pedal feel between my 67 and 21...67 feels firmer. My 2016 F250 work truck pedal is firm as well. All vehicles stop fine and never in doubt.
I'm always up for a good experiment......and I have the medical records to prove it! 😁

Cool!

So I guess it's safe to say that if someone is buying a used 2021 Bronco with the 2.3L they should have this checked out / serviced so they don't possibly die a fiery death due to brake failure.

Post 2021 Broncos with the 2.3L don't need to worry about the brake boosters killing them..

Just because yours seems fine doesn’t mean there aren’t a lot of people posting issues on this site, Bronco6G, Ranger5G and numerous automotive publications.
Here’s one example-

Am I incorrect that this was a 2021 issue that was corrected in later models with a new hose? That's all I seem to recall reading/hearing about on this.

Yeah it ended up being much to do about nothing... Read the thread, it appears to be 2021's only..

SSM 50472 - 2021-2022 Bronco - 2.3L - Illuminated Brake Warning Lamp
And/Or Brake System Warning Message – DTC P050F Set In The ABS
Module And Firm Brake Pedal
Some 2021-2022 Bronco vehicles equipped with the 2.3L engine may exhibit a red brake warning
lamp and/or brake system warning message in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) with a diagnostic
trouble code (DTC) P050F in the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module and a firm brake pedal. This
may be due to contamination in a brake booster vacuum line. To correct this condition, replace the
vehicle's vacuum hose (MB3Z-2420-A). Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 206-09 for
installation instructions. For claiming, use casual part 2420.

I have a 2023 4dr Badlands with manual and 2.3L engine. I've had no problems with my brakes. I live in Arizona and drive from Phoenix (1100 ft) to Flagstaff (7000 ft) with many up and down grades on the route. I'm happy with the performance. My other car is a WRX Subaru. So I'm used to performance. At no time have I wished I had more power or a larger engine in my Bronco.

The 2.3L engine is more reliable. I don't think you'd notice much of a difference unless you're a REAL leadfoot or compete with your Bronco. Towing a trailer may make a difference, but many people tow trailers with the 2.3L engine.

A side note. I only got interested in a Bronco after I found out Ford was offering a manual transmission with a crawler (granny) gear.

90 lbs-ft of torque is a huge difference. I do understand people feel they have to shift a vehicle. And there is that “One pedal drive” & “Trail turn assist” are lost with the 7 speed. Ford’s new 2.3 with dual injection has yet to reach the Bronco. Trouble ahead with carbon buildup.
