Going to Off-Roadeo Texas? What else will you do while you're there?

Off-Roadeo is coming to Texas. If you've already been to the Austin area, what would you suggest people do while they're there?

Now thems fighting words. :)

I like good BBQ no matter where it comes from. As long as I can have it with a Big Red.

As in Big Red soda? That has to be something you grew up with to like! When my family moved to Texas (from Indiana) when I was 12, all the kids in my new neighborhood LOVED two sodas I had never had before...Dr Pepper and Big Red. Dr Pepper was fine, never thought it was particularly good or bad. Big Red was a whole other story. I thought it was going to be a delicious strawberry soda like Welch's, but oh no!!!! It had a hideous bubblegum flavor that I found most unpleasant. All the other kids LOVED it, and I was the weird one for NOT liking it! For almost 25 years I successfully repressed all memories of drinking Big Red until a Rudy's BBQ opened about 3 miles from my house here in Arizona, and they have Big Red in the fountain. The first time I went there, I poured a little hit to see if the flavor had grown on me at all over the years. Nope, not one bit!!!! My wife who was born and raised in California had no idea that Big Red existed or what it was. When she tasted my pour from the Rudy's fountain, she had the exact same reaction to the flavor that I always had.

I take no position as to what BBQ is best. I enjoy it all and love trying new places.

I do have a weakness for Rudy's breakfast tacos though! They are so good, so cheap, and so close. Its a dangerous combination!

Rudy's is the type of BBQ that you enjoy while on a road trip and not wanting detour from the road/gas station. I have enjoyed many a meal at Rudy's when needing to get to the next stop.

I've never had Big Red, I don't really drink pop but since you describe it like that, my mind goes to Faygo Redpop. Faygo is the kind of pop that goes well with vanilla ice cream. lol

Yes the Big Red soda. I grew up on it so I never really thought about it. I really don’t drink sodas I just lost the taste for them, but I have a Big Red every other year or so with some good BBQ. Rudy’s I see having Big Red since the original Rudy’s is about 20 miles from my house, in Leon Springs. Even though Rudy’s is a simi-chain each store might have something different.

Yes Big Red Floats are a big deal around these parts. I just can’t see wasting good Ice cream by mixing it with any soda or Pop.

Funny around San Antonio we would call sodas Cokes. You would go to a friends house and they would ask what kind of coke do you want, Sprite, Dr Pepper, Pepsi...

Big Red and Barbacoa sounds good right about now. I have a little mom and pop BBQ near me called Harmon's . A little hidden BBQ gem in Cibolo. Also, Cooper's or Black's in New Braunfels TX are very good all year round. It's about 2 hours south of Austin's Roadeo location.

I haven't been to Austin in over 10 years, or lived there in over 20, so I imagine most or all of my favorite haunts are long-gone. :(

Here's a quick question, if you did not purchase a Badlands or FE, are you still authorized to attend an Off-Roadeo? It is my understanding that Badlands owners get one free pass to attend and First Edition owners get two passes. All others pay for the experience. Can I get confirmation? Thank you.

You might want to tag @Off-Roadeo_Madi. I believe she is the designated BN Off-Roadeo specialist, so I bet she can help you out.

I believe that it's one free pass to purchasers of the Bronco Sport Badlands and Bronco Sport First Edition, or any of the Bronco 2 Door and Bronco 4 Door models.

I like Coke and vanilla ice cream. Blend it like a shake and you have a Coke Freeze. Grew up with it in San Antonio. Better than straight milk. (Diabetes anyone?)

Original owners of a qualifying all-new 2021 Bronco, Bronco Sport Badlands or Bronco Sport First Edition are eligible to attend Off-Roadeo. Owners are able to bring guests for an additional fee.

I'm a simple man. Give me a good breakfast from a TX taqueria and some Whataburger and I am good. If the weather is good and the water is flowing, New Braunfels is always a good time from what I remember.

Lived in Austin and then SATX. Things to do in Austin?....sit in traffic. The city is a mess. Why they would have an off-road event there is beyond me.
Rudy's is the best, but you have to go to SA to the original one on I-10 and Boerne stage Rd. Salt lick is pretty damn good too and I always like Pokey Joe's on Palmer.

Never been to it, but LOVE bbq! I may order some of their sauce and try them at home. What would you recommend?

Been to the Rudy's in Del Rio and loved it. Also tried The State line near El Paso and not a huge fan.

Oh yeah if the off-rodeo is at or near Hidden Falls you have to stop by Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls for some breakfast or pie. Then head over to the second largest outcropping of Granite in the US, and hike Enchanted Rock.
I believe this could very well be the location. Not familiar with a place that would suit this event better. And it’s an hour outside of Austin as described
I live 20 min from there in Lago Vista . And Blue Bonnet cafe is legendary for those pies and the Bear King Brewery next door has amazing food and beer.

Welcome to the Nation @LagoVistaBronco

You are correct there are a lot of breweries, distilleries and wineries in the Austin area. Jester King, Deep Eddie, To name a couple, I don’t drink and I am sure I could name a dozen in the SAT/ATX area.

Gotta be Hidden Falls, just east of Marble Falls. Been out there many times on the ATV trails.

Cooper's BBQ in Llano is a few miles west of there, I highly recommend it. If you're willing to drive a few more miles, (in the other direction), head down to Lockhart and grab some sausage, Big Red, and a block of cheese (with crackers) at Kruez (not open on Sundays). Or, head east to Taylor and try Louie Mueller BBQ. The Salt Lick out in Driftwood (the original) can get crowded, but they have a great honey-mustard based sauce.
