Has anyone stayed at the dancing bear lodge in Townsend TN near the Tennessee Off Rodeo? I just booked a I bedroom cabin for me and my dog. Staying 3 nights to kick back, relax and unwind! Going through a divorce and what better way to do it then a cabin in the woods, fireplace, Burbon and your dog before hitting the off rodeo on Friday April 3rd! Anyone have any thoughts on the location, feedback etc!

If the Doggo gets car sick.. its not for him..
When I say the steering will NEVER get to stay clocked at 12... I mean it.... And like it has been mentioned. The bikes are the most dangerous part of the drive. Besides the occasional Illegal 18 wheeler that will have the mtn jacked up for miles. Otherwise, its worth the drive.

18 Wheelers are banned & it is heavily policed now. The biggest issue are the sports cars & sport bikes that drive it hard

I looked it up on the web and yep, everything you said is called out! It said something like 300 plus turns in 11 miles! That’s nuts! It does sound like one of those bucket list items you gotta do though!

The Dragon was a bucket list thing for me. It’s absolutely worth it! I was in my Mustang so I was able to go a little quicker. Plenty of areas to pull off on the side to let the bikes or smaller cars to go by. The area is beautiful and you’ll get some cool pictures of your Bronco. Tapoco lodge was mentioned in another post, it’s at the southern end of the Dragon. Great play to stay but also a great place to have a drink overlooking the river. You’ll be glad you did it if you can. It helped to clear some cobwebs for me and my Mustang.

Dancing Bear is very nice & on higher end side. If you want some variety & like good meals there are several great restaurants. The Raven, RT Lodge, Foothills Milling, & Walnut Kitchen. If you want amazing Mexican food Chapulines inside the Exxon gas station On 321 as you are headed to Townsend. I live in Maryville & know the area well. Parsons Branch as mentioned is good & you also have Rich Mountain Rd in Cades Cove. There are several good trails in Tellico Plains as well. If you want a nice ride that is not as aggressive as the Dragon you could do Cherohala Skyway & come back on the Dragon. Also you have Foothills Parkway which is a great Spring ride. I am not sure if we have any local Bronco events going on during that week/weekend. Will advise if we do though

love all this! Thanks for the added info.

Great to hear you made it. And enjoying the stay so far. I think you will find plenty of things to do. Cades Cove, Elkmont, and other places im sure youve researched.

Glad you are enjoying. You picked a great time to be in the Mountains. Late March & early April are amazing. I forgot to mention Peaceful Side Social is dog friendly & food is excellent.

the two of us have been hitting some light trails. The Cherokee National Forrest along 360 & 35 state roads, I believe was the road, was awesome. Lots of wild turns that followed along a river. The trail we did was called double camp. Easy level two trail but a bit bumpy. Beautiful area though. Also did a loop tour of the Smokey’s that showed up a ton of Turkey and a black bear that everyone went running towards with cameras. Felt kinda bad for the bear so I kept driving.

Did the Tail of the Dragon twice today for the first time. The first pass I ran it smooth and relaxed, jumped to the side for the occasional Ferrari. The second pass I got my wild oats about me and sped up just a little, still being safe but feeling the turns better, then between mile mark 4-5 a group of twenty bikes were to the side of the road, and one bike was 40 ft down the side of the mountain from the road and a biker was being cared for by his peers.

With that, I said a prayer, offered any support then went my way, knowing all was ok, well except for the bike. The rest of the drive back the pucker factor was very tight…

The scenic view was on the route to the dragon…

For sure a fun ride but you can see how people get over confident and take it too fast…
