Parking & road to Base Camp @ NV Mt. Potosi for an RV?

Hi all, I’m attending the Raptor Off Rodeo April 26th and we are traveling in a 38’ Super C RV towing our vehicle.

1). Is there parking at the base camp for us? We’d need about 60’. And can we get in and turn around to leave?

2). How is the road ftom the Hwy 160 turn off to the base camp? Is it graded dirt? Gravel? One lane?

3) We need 13’ height clearance, is there a gate at the entrance with an overhead we’d need to clear? If so, does anyone know the height?

Thank you, the call center doesn’t have any answers to these questions for us. Appreciate any feedback.

You should be able to park at the bottom just outside the gate and walk up to the event or hitch a ride. My recollection of the grounds leads me to believe that you probably wouldn't want to be up in there trying to turn that thing around - the parking lot is long and skinny. I'm not sure if you would even clear top of the gate structure. I don't think the dirt road from the pavement to the gate will pose a problem.

I would shoot an email to the Off Roadeo people. They can either give you the information or direct you to someone. It’s been a while since I attended but I was able to reach out and got a prompt response. And if you strike out I may be able to dig a little deeper for you. Good luck

Agree.

The hard-pack dirt road from the highway to the initial meeting point (outside the Rodeo gate) is rough with small stones but is a hard-pack road. Go slow - everything will be rattling but I don't recall any major obstacles of note. Maybe a 5-10 minute ride. Then at the main gate, there could be a clearance issue as pointed out above, so measure. Inside the gate the road is steeper and has some rough spots. Get a ride (they make you shuttle anyway from the inside parking lot) and all should work out.

Snow or mud conditions may change my opinion.

Have fun!

Where are you camping with the RV? Can you park there, then take the tow vehicle to the Off Roadeo event?

If you already tried talking to them and didn't get answers, I can message one of the trail guides there for you. It's not the best parking situation for you, but if the lot isn't full at the bottom before the gate, it may be doable. Like others have said, dirt the whole way and sometimes rutted. It's two lanes.

Hey @dvick107, I messaged one of the guides, and he said they regularly get semis through the gate, so clearance shouldn't be an issue. He's a Class A driver, and recommends you park at the lot before the gate. They can shuttle from that lower lot or the upper lot, but turning around in the upper lot may be an issue for you. I'm glad you're not arriving this week; they have half a foot of snow at the gate right now!

We have two Aussies that will be in the RV, we need to be able to let them out for a break when we're back at the Base Camp for lunch, etc.

Thank you very much for the information, we appreciate it! We'll be in town at least a day early (for Garth Brooks!) so I think we'll take a drive out to the site to check it out and see if it is doable. Your feedback is super helpful!

Having been there:
There is parking BUT it's a bit of a drive up hill, road is gravel a and rocks with potholes and far from smooth which leads to the gate that I think is over 13' but you can park outside the gate or inside but a shuttle takes you the last leg. A lifted pickup got a flat when hitting a pothole in the gravel/rocks leading to the gate (the off-rodeo staff were nice enough to stay late and help the couple change their tire). If you're staying in the area I would recommend parking the trailer. The lead up shoots right off a highway, so freeway speeds straight to the beaten path up. I made it in a rented camry but I showed up early and went slow and steady picking my aproach. @Laura may have better info since I went 2 years ago, but that's how I remeber it.

We'll be at the Oasis so we most likely will end up doing exactly this.
