I am about to book Off Rodeo in Nevada. As part of the registration they asked about optional insurance. This seems odd since the point of the training shouldn't damage the vehicle. I am surprised not to see more discussion on this, and want to know what others think of the optional insurance (especially those who have already done the Off Rodeo).

I bought it. I was in a Wildtrak and apparently scratched the area under the pinch weld, but it was no big deal. I Always buy the insurance though, even on a black jack table. In retrospect, I probably didn't need it.

I got the insurance also. Glad that I did after the offroadeo course we did in moab! Can't believe that they let us do what we did! Thanks to our expert guides! Worth every penny!

You can select the insurance option when you arrive - it does NOT have to be purchased in advance.

I elected to pay the $75 for peace of mind when I went to NH in Sept 2021 and didn’t do anything that would have jeopardized the vehicle. YMMV

Check your policy first to see if its redundant. In my case it was. I had plenty of coverage on my current policy; thus, I skipped it.
But, if your policy is lacking, or your deductible his high, get it. We had those Broncos on two wheels at certain times. There was one time traversing a high camber hill would of rolled it had he not instinctively turned the wheel toward the downhill quickly to stop the roll.... Any rookie behind the wheel that day would of for sure rolled it. You are alone in those vehicles. The course coach/trainer can't be everywhere all the time....

I did not get it, but like last poster started check your insurance. I saw two get beat up at my off-rodeo, one almost tore off the back bumper and for sure bent it up. No one mentioned anything about it while there so not sure how it is all handled.

One member of our group in New Hampshire got too tight to a tree and touched the door handle (4d) and took off the fender flair on that side. The instructor reinstalled the fender flair and buffed off the handle and just let it go.
I had the insurance as well but didn't hit anything, at least nothing you could see. The bottom definitely scraped a few things.

When you get in your Bronco the trail guides come around with an iPad to record any existing trail damage. My Bronco had a couple of cracks and dents from previous use that was already documented.

I got the insurance even though I didn’t need it.

I bought the extra insurance as well. Peace of mind. Any scratches, chips, dings, and scuffs are documented beforehand so you're off the hook. If you wreck the Bronco, you're still liable for a small percentage of the overall repair, but it's nowhere near the total cost of the vehicle itself. Why does the lack of discussion about this subject surprise you?

I personally think it’s ridiculous that there is a discussion of insurance. They want to sell us on these vehicles and take us to places where there is a good chance of damage especially letting raw amateurs do it. With the insurance being only $75 seems petty to ask people to pay and something they should account for. Going to an off-rodeo is expensive enough with travel and lodging etc for people not near the sites. Just my opinion.

To play my own devil’s advocate, them just putting it out there that there is a responsibility for the care of the vehicles so people don’t just go idiotic. Protecting people from themselves just by starting the conversation even if they were not never actually force anyone to pay in the event of a rough accident.

It was not needed during the Off-Roadeo in Nevada I attended 11-5-2021; the guides do a fantastic job keeping you inline. Now that being said, if one doesn't follow their instructions or decides to go of the grid, eh... then I would say purchase the insurance.

I went to the Moab off rodeo and did not get the insurance. For the most part the guides are there with you and didn't put us in any situations where it would have damaged the Bronco so long as you follow what they say.

New Hampshire they were also very clear about what to do yet someone didn't follow their directions and caught some damage. When in the moment, having a new experience like that, you never know what might happen. I'm sure Moab has less trees to deal with, so that could help. when in the trees paying attention to your sides was important.

Went to NH and did not buy it. Figured if something got damaged it was their fault not mine. Think I was the only one who didn't, and no one would have needed it that day...

Part of the Off Rodeo email info we received:

Our Optional Vehicle Damage Waiver – available for $75 – will limit your financial responsibility to $3,500 if any vehicle damage is incurred during the event.

So appears you would be responsible for at least $3500.

Checked with our vehicle insurance and they would cover if damage occurred. Plus our deductible is less than $1000.

Yeah, same deal with me with regard to the part you're responsible for if you destroy their Bronco. However, I am without a car at the moment (have been since September 7, 2021), so I didn't have auto insurance. I did purchase a six-month liability policy for the opportunity to test drive a few cars before, during, and after the day I ordered my Bronco. It was still in effect when I attended the Moab Off-Roadeo in late February.

Considering the cost to attend, known risk by Ford to host the event, i was surprised to see the insurance offer. With all of that in mind, i just figured there would be a lot of debate on this site.

The only cost associated with attending the event is getting there and finding room and board. I will be refunded my deposit once I take delivery of my Bronco. The insurance cost seems like a non-issue to me. It's more of an added option for those who want to give themselves a little cushion in case something goes south on the trail.

There is a $50 non refundable sign up fee which seems piddly and should be free.
