Hello All,
We have trip lined for Bronco Off-Roadeo at Gunstock Mountain NH late June and we're so looking forward to this... I know the camp has their own Broncos they use for off -trail riding.

I have Big Bend Sasquatch and wondering if its worth driving it up there from outside NYC area. I'm also planning on taking trip to Northern Michigan late this Summer so don't want to put lots of miles on the Bronco BB. Any suggestions? And what are some things to do at Gunstock you recommend.

Thanks in advance!!

I can only tell you what we did a few weeks ago when we did the bronco off rodeo in Moab.
We took ours and the 3 days following the off rodeo we used ours on the trails and just got so connected with it.

So I think you should take yours and play with it.

Ask around on Bronco Nation and see if others are going and you can buddy up.

Don't miss anything the off rodeo has to offer. If they have anything going after dinner there, stay. Moab had a campfire and so many people left right after dinner.

If they give you options for easy way or hard way. Take the hard way. The trail guides are top notch, the Bronco is very capable and you will get more out of it.

You're going to have a blast.

It is worth it. Broncos are herd animals, and hopefully you will see more of a herd than I did a couple of years ago when the birth rate was lower and mine was alone...

My wife and I did the Gunstock Off-Roadeo last June and it was Awesome. We went into it without much experience and came away with not only great memories but also the confidence to do more. It was so much fun my wife keeps asking, can we do another, like maybe MOAB?
The Trail Guides are excellent, teaching not only what the Bronco is capable of but most importantly how to use the features of the vehicle , whether you have the full package or not (front/rear lockers, sway bar disconnect etc).
Location is fantastic, the fellow drivers are great to meet, everyone had different experience levels but that made it even better. We live about 2.5 hrs away but there were folks from as far south a S Carolina and west to Michigan and Ontario.
A lot of folks drove, trust me NYC to Gunstock is not a bad drive, I have driven the NECorridor for years so would not hesitate. Either take 84 through Danbury & Hartford or if you don’t mind a longer hike head up to Albany and take the MassPike 90- no traffic hassle, 70+ the whole time and plenty of rest stops. Cut north on 91 (either from Hartford off 84 if you take that route) or 91 north from Springfield MA (if you are on the MA pike). At Brattleboro cut east on Route 9 (towards Manchester/Concord), to 93 N to take you to the Laconia exit. This is a bit slower but super nice drive. You can avoid 495 around Boston that way.. (would add about an hour). No matter what route, drive you Bronco, use it, bond with it.
Then after the Off-Roadeo for the trip home you will just want to drive through the woods, using any old track or Vermont class 4 road you can find!
Have fun!

You are going to have an AWESOME time @Greg S - Gunstock was fantastic, the guides were amazing and the camaraderie dynamite. I attended back in September 2021 and also drive from just outside NYC - my wife & I timed the BOR to coincide with the Brimfield (Massachusetts) Flea Market so she was happy…

My only advice is to NOT stay at the Steele Hill location and find alternative lodging arrangements.

I agree 100% with Bshurr, we stayed thee and it was a disappointment. That was the only disappointment.
For coffee, delicious breakfast sandwiches and pastries hit up The Wayfarer in downtown Laconia.. yum yum yum.

Good call @LO978 - Laconia Bike Week is June 7 thru 17th so there’s something fun to do if your trip timing allows.

I haven't looked at older posts.
Moab has posts on where to ear. Where to stay etc.
You should search or ask those who have gone before you.

Because of this forum we found an awesome burger and shake joint. After our run, OH Man.

I attended the New Hampshire Off Roadeo in September of 22. I drove my Basesquatch up from Ohio, and tent camped 2 nights in the Gunstock campground. Steady rain all weekend, BTW. The best meal I had was the supper at the Basecamp. I really couldn't find anyplace close that looked appealing. Fortunately, I was well provisioned for camp cooking.

Thank you everyone, thanks Laura for the article! I will definitely drive the Bronco BB Sasquatch to Gunstock. Really appreciate tips on driving up there and avoiding Boston highways. @Bshurr - very, very helpful tip on Steele Hill... Place seemed so nice in the pics and tried to look at many weekends but they were booked up - at least for the Bronco event (and this place is not cheap!) Managed to get room at Belknap Inn and the location looks amazing... We're really looking forward to this event and will be a totally different vacation for us.

Til next post!

morning Greg...just a tip, townplace suites at the Marriot in Gilford is about the same price as your Belknap point res. nicer room but no lake view, depends on what you want. I live in Gilford, attended the off rodeo 2 years ago and everything that everyone says is true...top notch guides and the 2nd half of the day is the most fun and challenging!! but all in all one of the best experiences I've had in the woods for sure. I also hope you get Hank, but they're both very good!!

a lot of good restaurants in the area, wayfarer is excellent for coffee and such, the waffles are awesome..I recommend greenside in tilton on the way home if you're staying another night or Lakehouse in Meredith with views of the lake.

Definitely take in all you can with the rodeo, stay for the campfire after...it was pouring when I got done, so no fire...hope you guys enjoy the day and the stay in NH!! safe travels!!

Good morning adakfire,
Thanks very much for your feedback especially the local eats suggestions. The Mrs. will be happy! Chose the Belknap for its view and its amenities. Plus they had availability for my weekend. Seems like a very nice place. From what I've heard -will not miss the evening campfire and hope the weather is good.

Quick question... as we're only there for the long weekend, what would you recommend to do for outdoor activities? We enjoy hiking, kayaking, and mountain bikes..

Til next post!

really depends on how far you wanna go and how rambunctious you feel lol...there's a lot of hiking around the area, gunstock, Mt Major, there's an old castle in Gilford you can hike to...pretty much any marina (and a store named parafunalia) I think you can rent a kayak and explore the area lakes (the big lake has alot of boat traffic)..not sure about the bike thing though. I'm sure you enjoy your time here, there alot to do!! also forgot to mention ellacoya bar and grill in Gilford too, great food and atmosphere!!! Enjoy your stay and enjoy the day on the course!!

Gunstock has a campground. I haven't stayed there, but I have heard good things about it.
