looks like you could clean it up and hit the high points with some sanding. Mount the sandpaper on something stiff and flat so it only sands the coating on the high points... Looks like there is some adhesive still on there... Isopropyl alcohol with help take that off with a soft towel.

Many of us, dare I say all of us, have had this issue. I left mine chrome for the time being. @Deano Bronc sanded his and painted it body color. (HPR) Looks awesome.
