Swing out hitch mount/extender

I was thinking about getting a swing out hitch mount/extender like the kuat pivot 2 or wilco swing hitch. Does anybody have any experience with them? Any thoughts?

Will only use them for bike or snowboard carriers or a cargo carrier probably.

I know they will limit off road departure angles but I figure they're ok for beaches and more level approaches.

I added a Curt hitch (short one to minimize clearance issues), but also have an extender to clear the spare when I put my Thule T2 rack on (it’s what I have and don’t plan to buy a new rack).

Posted this on 6G a few months ago, there’s a decent thread there that have other options shown.

I mounted this up over the weekend. Can’t fully open the tailgate with a bike on, but probably adequate for me to dig some gear out. Bike is a 27.5+, hard tail for reference.

Without the hitch extension the spare tire hits the rack pivot mechanism And doesn’t open more than and inch or two.

Is that a two or four-door model bronco?
I ordered a two-door I'm hoping I can get my bike in the back with the front wheel off with one seat folded down actually two bikes.

I have a 4D. Can’t comment on 2D w/bikes inside. Think it’ll be tight!

Damn. We do some biking and we do some hiking and I like to leave the bikes locked in the vehicle plus in the winter time with the fat bike it gets a lot less salt and road spray on it.

Welp, Wilco messaged me back and said that the hitch swing wouldn't work with the bronco Sasquatch package. So there goes that one...

Curious what the Sasquatch package has to do with that. The extra width of the tire on the tailgate?

That's what I'm thinking, unless it is an answer they gave to limit their liability or headache if it doesn't fit. I know the second hitch location at end of the swinging portion of the arm is higher so I wonder if the larger tire gets in the way of that or the locking pin....hmmm I wish could see it in person. Or any hitch mount swing arm extender for the matter.

I was told by one of the guys at a local bike store that the kuat pivot V2 may limit what you mount to it an the hitch at the end of the swing arm was shallow....Which would not be ideal.

I knew I had seen one mounted on the back of a Bronco and I finally found it. It looks like Kuat is probably worried about the rear wheel diameter but it appears to work.
Take a look at this thread.

Thanks!... Didn't come up the last time I did a search for some reason... Maybe the words I chose. I'll take a look

Found a Kuat pivot V2 passenger side swing locally! Got it put together and installed in like 5 min... Fits well and looks clean. Went with this one because I live in an area where a blocked license plate will probably get me pulled over as lesser things have got me pulled over before. The Kuat can get to 120 degrees, which will clear hitch mounted cargo well. So far the anti rattle mech. works well (just gotta remember not to over tighten from what I've read) and comes with a hitch lock. Now gotta look into attachments (maybe a bike carrier and a cargo carrier something that can double add a snowboard carrier for the winter months)

I just bought the Pivot 2.0 and NV Base 2.0 to use with my E-Bike. I like it so far.

Nice, @ne2000! This is exactly what I want for my Bronco (and the primary reason I wanted the Tow Package, which I ended up dropping). Thanks for posting!

Nice video. I watched it this morning because I'm really interested in the Pivot 2.0 but still not sure which actual bike rack I'm going to get. I've been watching this thread on B6G https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/thre...ike-rack-pivot-pro-2-0-hitch-extension.52196/

Eventually my wife and I are getting E-bikes and we want to make sure that whatever combo we get it will be sturdy enough for 2 E-bikes. We have just regular road bikes now. Will the rack accommodate both fat tire E-bikes as well as road bikes or do you have to buy separate hardware?

This one will accommodate both, it came with one fat tire kit, which is just straps, so if you have a second it's another 15 bucks, I initially purchased a Hollywood racks rv rack but it's stabilizer requires a hitch lip and didn't end up being recommended for the trailer I was going to put it on. I also looked at the 1 up super duty but I wasn't sure it's cam and attachment would work with the pivot so I stuck with the Kuat NV Base as it was guaranteed compatible and natively handled the fat tire bike. In many cases you have to buy something special for the fat tire, not so here. I didn't cover all it's features including the built in bike lock which is super convenient, especially having an ebike on there.
