Hooke Offroad Half Rack

I bought my 23 BB in March. It had the dual top option. After about a week I figure out how to get the hardtop off by myself using a J-Barr setup in conjunction with an electric hoist winch from Amazon. I ran the soft top until mid June. Love it. My daughter was getting married near Orlando on July 8th. I knew we were going to be loaded with stuff as the wedding events were compressed. Like the wedding shower was held just a couple of days before the wedding so we carried wedding shower stuff. This was because many, if not most of the guests were coming from overseas. I needed a solution. I found the half rack to be what I wanted and for the price I went with the Hooke Offroad Half Rack.

The half rack went together easily. The only thing was that it had a small chip. I contact HO and they only offered a small refund (maybe 10%) and suggested I paint that chip. Okay, it is a small chip. The only thing is HO coats there stuff with a wrinkle format "power coat" and I don't know how to duplicate that. I would have preferred a smooth finish.

Well, we loaded up the Bronco and went on the trip. Daughter was successfully married off. Once I got back I put the soft top back on. More or less by myself.

I use a system of pulleys from two kayak lifts and straps. Works okay but I'm going to add another electric hoist to make it even easier.

For $300, I think the HO Roof Rack is worth the money. It doesn't have any bells and whistles like side racks and such but if your daughter is getting married and you need to hall a lot of stuff plus 4 people than this rack may work for you. It worked for me.

Looking at getting the Hooke Offroad Half Rack. Just curious if you've gone through a car wash with the rack? TIA

Sorry, no. I hand wash the vehicle. And the hard top is hanging in the garage for now, so no washing at all.

Thanks for the reply. I live on a dirt road that gets very muddy during rains or the spring melt so I like to use a car wash with an undercarriage spray. It's a brush carwash and I was just curious if the Hooke Offroad rack would work with a brush type carwash and not get ripped off!

I have the full Hooke roof rack. Run it through all sorts of car washes. No issues what-so-ever. Absolutely love all the Hooke I have purchased. Quality workmanship. Company is responsive to inquiries and customer friendly. A hidden gem carried over from the pre-6G 4X4 world.

Thanks for the info. That's what I was wanting to know. It looks like a very nice and well-made unit.

I went ahead and got the Hooke Road half rack. Very easy install and high quality parts. A couple very minor issues - a couple of the aluminum cross pieces still had some debris from tapping the screw holes and one of the nut inserts was tapped crooked. I was able to re-tap the nut and use it - just didn't tighten it as must as the good ones! Great product. Have not had a chance to use it loaded yet or drive it through and car wash, but the mounting method provides a stronger attachment than I thought it would.
