Having scratched my '06 F150 to all hell, wanted to add the PPF option for my Bronco... but have never used protection film before.

Seeing that it was a $295 option out of the factory, I thought that was a no brainer.

Seeing some posts now about aftermarket PPF's and the price differential is huge. Love the look of the XPEL Stealth Satin film and the matte finish... but seeing quotes at +$5k.

If I wanted to do an aftermarket film such as the Stealth down the road, would it be best to NOT have the PPF installed at the factory? Or is it possible to add on top or replace the factory PPF on a future date?

It is cheap in cost, but it is only part of the front hood and fenders. I had it on my 21 build, not part of my 22 because I went with full body bash plates on my wildtrak. The factory is just clear plastic wrap, it is apparently done off site and will delay your build.
I was told percentages of builds getting the PPF was really low, that is it is a constrained item. Lots of items are still marginally constrained, meaning they are not 100% available but 40-50% availability, while others are in the 3-10% availability.

I had it on my MY'21 build, and my MY'22 build. My saleswoman contacted me that their dealership does a more comprehensive protection film installed onsite with a 10 year warranty for not that much more, so I went ahead and took it off my factory build.

Living in Arizona, there are ALWAYS rocks on the freeway. I've gone through 6'ish windshields of my Escape and the front is chipped to hell.

You can have the film removed and replaced but why pay for it twice? My buddy has a shop where he installs the XPEL film and it is a quality film. I had it installed on my wife's car the day we drove it off the lot but it is expensive.
Those quotes for 5K are probably for a full body wrap not the "bikini" package the bronco would come with.

The only one I have seen where you cannot get it with the 2.7L is for the Badlands due to weight and the system not letting you add accessories if you choose the 2.7L (Badlands was my first build but changed to Wildtrak). I was able to add it to my Wildtak that comes with the 2.7L.

I get the graphene coating done on my cars and it makes a world of difference. Not as protective as something like XPEL, but offers added protection to the clearcoat and also has the best hydrophobic properties of anything I've seen. Half of the time, I can wash my car in the driveway without having to actually touch it for the most part unless it's really dirty. I will be doing this to the new Badlands as well!

In the B&P, it was deleted when I clicked 2.7L engine in scope... Not sure why. Maybe that engine gets too hot and "yellows" the film.... who knows...
I'll definitely get it added in the aftermarket as most east TN mountain roads are chipseal and frequently throw rocks from any vehicle in front of you. That, and my wife, has a tendency to unknowingly tailgate...My current Ford hood is covered in little scratches that I think a good film would of protected.

Badlands and black diamond have full bash plates standard. Wildtrak can be optioned with full bash plates. Other trims can as well. Any trim with SAS, full bash plates and 2.7 will be over weight to get certain accessories factory added, light and heavy. PPF, cargo liner, roof racks, etc., etc go off the table. Honestly I would rather have the factory full body bash plates, then get the other accessories as dealer installed or aftermarket
