MORRFlate AMA on Reddit

For those who want to brave the world of Reddit... there is an AMA (Ask Me Anything) happening today (Nov 15th) on Reddit with the founder of MORRFlate (Tyler).

LINK

There is also a group buy attached to the AMA for up to 30% off. Initially I was only going to buy just an air hose kit, but now I'm thinking about an air compressor too. Anyone have any experience with the air compressors he sells?? They seem a little on the bulky side, but they also look very similar to the old blue air Maxi Trac compressors that NAPA sells (or use to sell) that everyone raves about.

I signed up yesterday, and again today 😊. Never used Reddit before, but seemed simple enough and some good info there too. Surely picked up at least 3 more by now, but I bet they won’t update until end of the month to keep collecting… lol.

I ordered the TenSix Pro air compressor and the 4 tire hose kit on October 1st. Received the hose kit but the air compressor has been on back order for almost 2 months now. I don't even know if I will have it in time for my trip to Moab December 8th. Just beware it might take awhile to get it. They also told me the TenSix was also on back order.

Yeah it says on his website that the compressors on are back order. Still taking orders for them but may want to look elsewhere if you need it in a hurry.

I don't need the compressor anytime soon... but now I'm thinking I'm going to pass on the compressor anyway. I was always leaning on mounting a compressor onto the Bronco itself, so I'll stick with that idea for now.... or at least until I change my mind again. 😉

---

Also... Reddit reached 100 signups by they way, so if anyone wants 30% off... good time to do it.

Getting a hose kit myself... and maybe even a pack of that Gluetread stuff. Saw a video on that, and it is pretty dang impressive. Will I ever use it? Probably not, but I'm still impressed.

I have the 4 tire inflation deflation hose kit and it works great. Recorded a video on that part and was going to add the air up with the new compressor.

I've talked to someone in the off road community about compressors, portable verse on vehicle. He said he doesn't feel compressors with one mounted in the engine bay. Heat isn't good for those and the one of the hottest parts of the Bronco is in the engine bay. Maybe mount it in the cargo area. I should do a video on this subject. Interview the community at an event, a poll.

Thanks for the information on MORRflate.

Thor's makes a cargo mount for the 4dr and I've considered making a similar one for 2drs, I've been using this prototype for a while now.

I will say you do not want to sit in the Bronco while it's running, it's LOUD in there.

It's the ARB compressor that is popular for under-hood installation. ARB is pricey, the prestige compressor, and has lots of fans--especially on the other site. I'm not aware of anybody who has an under-hood install for the Morrflate and its NAPA variants.

We're talking the NAPA two-cylinder 300 cfm compressor, which is the base for several vendors: Thorslightning, Morrflate, TrickyDick, and several others. It's well-tested, fast,* and has been adapted (rewired) by different sellers in different ways. The latest (ThorsLightning which I own and endorse) is to set your target psi, then let it inflate to that level.

TrickyDick seems to have the best price right now, and he's been a forthright guy on both forums, candidly discussing the virtues and fallbacks of his and other sellers. The thing to remember is that the base NAPA is Chinese-made, and supply chain issues may cause you to wait.

For portable, you can probably find a suitable box at Harbor Freight or Amazon for reasonable money for these or any other compressor. Lots of vendors will sell you an expensive one with their logo for much more. For a permanent install, ThorsLightning has one for the two- and four-door hardtop Bronco. Hardtop only. You know those three bolts which hold down the rear-most hardtop section? Those are the mounting points.

*I spend more time setting up or removing my 4-way hose system than I do airing up my ThorsLightning, typically 4-5 minutes from 15 or 20 pounds to my target 40 psi.

Thanks for the plug. The big difference between me and the other guys is they are big established brands catching the Bronco wave while I'm a Bronco nut trying to make accessories more affordable and help fund my hobby. I run into customers on trail rides all the time so I want to be able to look a guy in the eye knowing I treated him right.

These new "set and forget" variants cost the same (within a couple dollars) from the factory so it irks me that the other sellers are charging a premium for them. I wanted to start offering them but I have a lot of inventory of the regular version to get through first. The market is getting saturated and Napa getting stock back in has slowed sales for the rest of us.

You strike me as a straight-up guy. I did buy your traction boards, but haven't needed them yet (thanks, Ford engineers!). Looking forward to when I do. They replaced a pair of RhinoUSAs which failed utterly in mud near the Wilson Hot Springs just off the Pony Express Historic Byway. Interestingly, it was a guy in an Explorer who ventured onto the playa and pulled me out!

My installer (a Ford dealer tech, once a nuclear engineer in eastern Europe) had a cheap 200A remote cut-off switch (Amazon) on hand, and installed it close to my ThorsLighting, very simple in-line install. Now I sit in the driver's seat, remote in hand, and monitor my psi on the dash when I air up. That also alerts me to any irregularities in my psi that might occur. You might consider including that in your package.

Pleased as I am with the ThorsLightning, I must fault them on their install instructions, which really lack precision and detail, at least for the permanent install. You want to make sure yours are clear, accurate, and well illustrated or photographed.

Lastly, I boost them partly because they're retired law enforcement, just so you know.

That's entirely fair. I have nothing against Thor's and have recommended their molle mount many times. I do have some beef with the other guy but I will leave it at that.

I purchased these through the group discount back in early December. Did anyone else jump at the opportunity of discounted prices?

I'm not much on product reviews. But they look nice.... if that means anything..😄...
Thanks again to Morrflate for Offering the Nation a great price.

The working parts among suppliers are somewhere between similar and identical. The compressors are the same: new ones, as TrickyDick noted above, now have pressure/auto shut-off switching. The manifold you see is the same as several others. * The difference will be the quality of the hose, couplings, and chucks. Most people have nothing but praise for the MorrFlate. I had a malfunctioning manifold, which ThorsLightning replaced immediately, and they included their newer chucks (which connect to the tire valves), which was an improvement. So I'm very satisfied with them.

Other than that, bags and covers and velcro ties vary. If you're not going to do a permanent install, I suggest a good carry kit from Harbor Freight or somebody instead of the flimsy tote bags the vendors provide.

We tend to get silly with some of these accessories: air-up speed is like small-town boys bragging about their hotrods' acceleration. I found my ThorsLightning/NAPA plenty fast. Mikes2021, you got a good system there, just use it. Just pay attention to what psi you want for which conditions.

*The manifold shown requires triple-A batteries. Always keep some fresh batteries in your tire kit.

I did order the 4 tire inflator without pressure gauge for the Wife for Christmas. It does make airing up/down much easier and faster. We used it a ton last week in big bend. Just a little antidote a fellow bronco owner was using a Dewalt inflator to air a single tire. We aired up from 22-38psi in all four then moved over to help the other Bronco owner and had the other 3 tires filled to 35 psi (that was the pressure they wanted) before the Dewalt finished the one tire. So the trickflate compressor and the Morrflate 4 way hose worked really well. I also added the trickflate pressure switch and universal quick connect to the trickflate, that was a simple mod. The Morrflate hoses are really nice I could not buy the parts to DIY it for less than the sale price other than a leaky schrader valve, the hose kit is perfect. I have a maxtrac air down tool that I use for a pressure gauge if needed I attach it to the schrader valve on the Morrflate manifold. I also used it to tighten the schrader valve. Works flawlessly now.

It won’t be the end of the world if you have no batteries for the gauge you can still use the pressure monitor on you dash. I never used the maxtrac other than to tighten the schrader valve. But I had it if I needed it.

That's exactly what I do now: sit up front and monitor the psi on the dash, the shut it down with my remote when I'm 1-2 pound over my target psi. By the time it's shut off and the hoses are off, I'm at my psi. I'm very impressed with the accuracy of the tps's in the tires.

@RagnarKon, above:
I was trying to think of the GlueTread product last summer. Couldn't think of it. Here's what happened (I related this on the other site under the name "BostonSasquatch," now Banned For Your Protection. *

I was on a group run on a nice rocky trail in New Hampshire, and got a flat. First, I had a pitcrew of 15 guys, impact drivers, everything! The tire was swapped off fast, I hardly had to do a thing.
Second, it turned out to be a sidewall rip on my OEM Goodyears (25K miles), L-shaped, about 1" by 2." I was thinking I could repair that, and use it like I would a doughnut spare: limited miles & speed for emergencies only. Nobody, but nobody, would attempt that, not even inner-city junky tire shops. I tried to find that product, but couldn't locate it on the internet.
Third, I didn't want to buy a new spare, which would be irregular for a 5-tire rotation, nor did I want to abandon my OEM G square oodyears, with plenty of good rubber on them. So happens, Taxachusetts had a tax-free sales weekend mid-August. A friend of mine is a parts manager at a Hyundai dealership, and he got me a set of five new K02s at dealer cost, no tax. I mounted one as my spare, now work a 4-tire rotation, and when these four wear down, I'll mount the other four and go back to a 5-wheel rotation.

That's making the best of the bad situation, but I do wish I had the GlueTread stuff to hold off on buying the K02s. I will add GlueTread to my off-road gear kit.

* There was a thread on EVs, and I posted a rather unflattering meme on St.Greta. I'd had a few warnings. One was when I posted a link about Ford Bronco production figures from Breitbart, and they warned me about using political sources. I doubt they would have done that had I referenced NationalPandHandleRadio!

Alright time for my mini-review.

Hoses are great. Battery-powered air gauge is stupid—I will be swapping that out for an analog gauge eventually

Skipped on the compressor. I’m sure the Tricky/MORRFlate/NAPA/Thors air compressors are fantastic, but they're all too big and too bulky. Admittedly there was some self-imposed budget constraints this year, but even without those I don’t think I would have gotten one.

Dear me! That's 22.5 minutes of my life I'll never get back. 😉 I understand the swag bags given out at the Golden Globes were worth (seriously!) $500,000! You think they put Ford Performance winch hooks in them?
Joking aside, you asked about permanent installs for a compressor. I got the ThorsLightning "Refuge," which attaches to the three bolts that secure the bottom of the rear hardtop. Since I have the TRMX PakRax, which also utilizes that, I don't think my rear roof section is ever coming off. My installer ran the 500A cable from the battery (a circuit breaker was provided), along the top of the firewall, dropped it behind the right front wheel well, under the cabin ziptied to the chassis, and brought it up just rear of the right rear door.
Anyway, if you go with a NAPA-based 300cfm compressor, it's an install option to consider. If we meet up on a run or something, I'll show you. What if we organized a run for the Old Florida Road in North Adams?
