So for those of you out there considering this intake i thought id give a honest review. Roush Intake Part # 422233
Price $400-450 depending where you buy it.
Installation $0-100 depending if you do it yourself or have it dealer installed

Actual out of pocket price for the intake and installation from my dealer $0. I used my Ford pass points and having it installed at the dealer includes it into my factory warranty.

I honestly don't feel or hear any difference 😅 My MPGs are slowly creeping upward but snail like. Would i purchase it again? If i had the ford pass points available, Yes. Paying out of pocket I think I would personally look into an actual Intake. This kit is just a air lid with a bulge to accommodate the bigger air filter. At $500 dollars installed I think that money could be spent elsewhere.

Hope this helps you guys out a bit.

Glad ya got it for free, be a waste of your $$$ otherwise

Mishimoto, Injen, and AFE are truly worth the price, not this overpriced windowed lid and KN Filter

Looks nice, but as you point out it's not an intake but rather just a filter and box. A true intake with a tune is one of the best bang for buck mods but this is just fluff. I have a stock box but my K&N filter is pretty much the same as this at a much lower price.

What’s the difference with the Mishi? Isn’t also a box and new filter?

I have this, Ford Performance Tune, and Borla S-Type exhaust. I am running 37s and the three together are awesome. I can spin the tires which I only did one time in error. The shifts are great as well.

Box vs Lid for the price, Roosh is a friggin lid and kn filter, not a box and tubing

We added a whipple (S&B) velocity top engine air filter (drop in), boomba BOV adapter to release hot air from charge pipe + swoosh + sprint booster throttle controller we sell for less than anywhere else in the practical accessories section and were Very happy with performance in our 2.3 MT.

Best part about the Roush kit is the prefilter sock. Run it always. But if you live somewhere with limited airborne dust/dirt then prob not needed. Remove the K&N Filter for the S&B filter..even with the Roush kit. Should fit

Did you ever see the Roush "package" for the Bronco? It was a joke for the cost and you had to install everything yourself. The wood crate it came in was the coolest part of it.

It better come with an IOU for better parts for free. I like Roush for what they generally offer, but as you state it's a joke, and not a funny one.

Again, glad @EREKSHUN got it for free, but I feel terrible for those who jumped on the Roush kit asap and basically got beat for a windowed lid and slightly enlarged filter

The only reason I kept this in mine was because it improved my gas mileage. There is no other difference whatsoever.

ok... so now that you jerks got me looking at cold air intakes, I have questions.

1. What's the difference between dry or oiled air filter? Benefits between one or the other?
2. I see some of them claim minor hp and torque gains, but do any improve gas mileage?
3. Since I see some of these have hoses that go to the turbos (yes we all know I'm not a fan of turbo), do they help to keep turbos cooler? Extend life of turbo?
4. (Edit) Are the filters typically cleanable? Or replace only.

That's all for now, thanks.

  1. oil vs dry
    1. oiled is cleanable and reusable filter.
    2. Dry is usually a paper one time use filter. Replace after so many miles.
  2. most will improve MPGs if you can resist driving with a heavy foot.
  3. the additional hoses replace the factory ones that could be more restrictive to the turbos. Smoother, faster airflow which equals better performance and power. Not necessarily cooler.
  4. Oiled filters are cleanable and usually last years if cared for properly.

I guess the biggest thing I didn't note in my post is this is a Bronco not a 5.0 Mustang. So high end horsepower and spinning the tires seems to be a silly thing or goal to be looking for on these upgrades. Its more about improved MPGs, Possible torque gains which would be a benefit OFF-ROAD. If someone was trying to build a FAST bronco they should be looking at replacing the intercooler, ALL Piping like Mushimoto offers and a proper intake plus a tune. For me it was free as i mentioned and i was hoping for a bit of throttle response which just wasn't there. I'm still happy with the product but i have no intentions on building a Race inspired bronco. I still have my other Bronco builds to concentrate on this is more my daily driver.

Thanks for the reply. I myself am in the "daily driver" category. Put on about 25k miles/year. Only strain I put on it is when I tow a 12' trailer with 2 quads loaded up. Also use the same trailer for getting firewood. So I never had any intentions of building into a race car, though have had since day 1 the complaint of the turbo lag when starting from a stop. Also, no desire to add a tune. Luckily the 3 posted above by @Speed Devil state they work with OE tune.

With all that said, yeah I'd like a MPG gain over a major hp bump, but like you said, extra torque is always nice. And yes, being my first turbo engine, and taking most if not all my vehicles past 200k miles, I'd like to NOT have to worry about the turbos going bad at some point.

Good to know that oiled filters can be cleaned, looking at Ingen's site I noticed filter replacement was something like $89 😲

Dry loses a pony or two but is easier to clean (no oil), dry is also better offroading

Oiled is more power but gets dirtier offroading, needing more cleaning

Its not hard, but if you got a dry filter, dont need to watch past 0:42

Well damn, went to K&N's site after watching the video, they said clean filter @ 100k miles (with normal highway driving). That sounds crazy!

Looks like I got some thinking to do. Would be nice to gain some gas mileage from doing something like this. Only problem is, the various sites just mention hp & torque gains, nothing about MPG gains.

That said, it's not too hard, but it'd be a pain with other intake's as it doesn't seem you can take them out.

Also, if you don't care, what I do is clean a big fan prior and sit it on top to dry up quicker, best to clean during the hot months honestly.

Supposed to clean every 50k miles, but as the saying goes, your mileage may vary
