Full Length Steps vs. Mud Flaps

I'm still waiting on BD SAS to arrive, but I know I'm going to be adding a full length step. I'm trying to find out if the full length step is generally enough protection from the front tires kicking up rocks at the doors, or if I'm going to want to add mud flaps as well.

Been about 8K miles with these.

I get mud up around the window line, and tops of the fender flares frequently. No problem with rock dings in the doors and rocker at all. And, I occasionally hear quite a "clang!" from rocks hitting what I assume are the undersides of the steps.

So yea, no mud flaps, just steps, been fine.

I've decided to go with the ridiculously-priced Gatorback mudflaps. They're built especially for Broncos with the Sasquatch package and accommodate the factory rock rails. I'm going to pass on side steps of any kind. I've already gotten used to climbing into and out of the Bronco without the help of steps, so I'll save money there.

I like the Gatorbacks because you can remove the rubber lower portions for when you face challenging trails or rock crawls. Unlike the fixed plastic mud flaps, which are prone to get chewed up on sketchy trails.

And the Gatorback mud flaps look great!

No. you need both. Front mud flaps and the step. I went with the GoRhino D6 and like them. However, my Badlands SAS came with rock sliders; which I had to remove to install the D6 steps. The D6 stops the big stuff from flying and up helps preserve your seat bolsters if you use them to get in and out. Also, they stop door dings. I can pretty much park anywhere I want now.

I've since learned that IAG has a side step that allows you to leave the stock rock sliders in place. I'd give those a view.

BTW, I used Mabett mub flaps, on the front only. They are rigid and minimal in size but do a great job of knocking down just about anything the tires will spin up... Inexpensive and bolt right up to the SAS bronco. I recommend replacing the stock bolts (3 each side) with stainless steel bolts. The stock bolts showed rust stains fairly quick after the install.
