20 degree vs 5 degree slides - any meaningful difference

I am looking to upgrade my OBX side steps as I have almost cracked them in half a couple times on the trail. I can’t find anything definitive on a real application difference in a 20 degree bs 5 degree rock sliders. I know the 5 allow for more of a step but I like to look off the 20. I don’t want to buy some just for looks if there is a meaningful difference in the angles. Thanks!

I don't know if this is accurate by any means, just my opinion, but I think the angle on the 20 gives you better clearance/sliding ability if you hit a rock/tree stump with the slider.
I'm going with the 20 for mine.

I have looked into this extensively since I am putting on the 5 degree RCI sliders. It seems the main bar you would slide on is basically in the same place and the degrees go up from there. I would think as above if you were a serious rock crawler you may want the 20 degree to add that extra clearance as the slider goes away from the vehicle. Some have said and showed pictures and from their experience they believe the 5 degree may keep you a bit more away from an obstacle. Others have said that RCI says there is only a quarter of and inch difference with the size of the step between the two. However, they have also said the 5 degree works better as a step. Many have said the 20 degree is fine for them as a step and some think it is just OK.

It seems it comes down to look and preference. I bought them for a step and in case I happen to slam on them. I am not planning on sliding on them just for fun. There is plenty of rock crawling to do without ever touching them or just slightly knocking them at times. If, however I come down on a rock or a tree stump I want to be sure my rails will protect me.

There are lots of opinions out there and I believe I had made the right choice for me. I am also hoping the 5 degree keeps more rocks off the doors. Either one I am sure will be great.

I installed the 5 degree RCI frame mount sliders on my 2 door Wildtrak, very stout and RCI claims you can jack the car with them. Since my wife and I are mature, we will also use as a step. Ordered the Ford "trail armor" pinch weld "stick-on" covers for looks, since the sliders do not cover the unfinished area. Haven't determined if they'll fit, but it appears there is plenty of clearance. The RCI instructions and quality are excellent!

Awesome, glad they went on well. Nice to cover the pinch welds. Nice pic!

Got my 20 degree sliders installed today, not as "bad" of an angle as I kinda thought, still easy to step up on, so my wife was happy we went with these! 😎

They look great. I think the RCI are the best. Nice protection and good for a step like you say.

Thanks! I liked the RCI stuff I had on my F-150.It took a beating and came out like nothing happened, lol.
Plus, I grew up like 10 miles N. of them in Ft Collins, so helping a small Colorado business is a plus.
