Yesterday I got the Bronco (96, 5.8 engine) out and went to town. It's the first time I've really driven it in the rain. It ran fine to town, but on the way back it shut off for a second and came back on. I figured it was a glitch or something and pressed on until I made it home. It died in the driveway and wouldn't start again. I let it sit for about 30 minutes or so and it fired right up and ran fine again. Think something got wet? Or do I have bigger issues?

Did you check for any codes?
I would also check the following:
- battery cables clean & tight
- distributor cap secure, not cracked & rotor properly seated
- all plug wires in good condition and seated on the plugs & distributor
- lead to starter secure & clean
- 2023 Raptor / Shadow Black / MGV (DOB 8/30/23)
- 2023 Heritage Limited Edition / Robin’s Egg Blue / 4dr / (stolen from my dealer 11/15/23)

I didn't do anything but park it afterwards. It was raining cats and dogs, and I don't have a garage. I haven't touched it since. Everything under the hood looked dry when I popped the hood yesterday. Nothing looked out of the ordinary either. The check engine light never came on, and once it sat for a few it started up and ran like nothing ever happened. I'll for sure look at all that if it ever stops raining. Thanks for the reply

I have no personal experience with that Gen Bronco, but whenever I have experienced or seen this with a variety of vehicles it has been either loose connection or corrosion between the battery cables and battery terminals or a battery and/or alternator going bad.

It's unlikely but I did know someone years ago with a Ford 302 (5.0) that was very uninclined mechanically and they had a similar(ish) problem, turns out they were running their car with little to no coolant. The car would run normal for a while but if it ran for too long and got too hot it just stopped running. Sometimes it would start right back up sometimes it would need to cool down for 20 mins or so. According to them there were no signs of overheating but I saw their temp gauge. After we filled their radiator it ran for years without issue last I knew they were still driving it.

It got progressively worse. Today I changed the ICM and drove it all day with zero issues like this. THe Check Engine light came on, and some of the dash lights aren't working (right blinker indicator for one), but it's running great! Better than it ever has

Sounds electrical.

It was a broken hose letting too much air in and making it run lean. Fixed the hose, cleared the code and it's all better now. Weird
