Turbo Bronco?

I have an 89 (fourth gen) Bronco with the 4.9 straight six. I've been looking into adding a turbo to it. I've seen some videos and posts on other forums where people do it in the f150s, but I have yet to see someone do it to a Bronco. It would be interesting, since it's a 4x4, unlike most of the f150s I've seen with a turboed 4.9. If anyone can give me any tips or advice for my build I would really appreciate it.

My thoughts, not knowing exactly what you want out of the build. A turbo typically needs to spool up. I think a 4x4, in most situations, needs power "off the line", or at lower RPM. I think you don't see a lot of turbos on 4x4 because you're usually driving just off idle. A fourth gen Bronco with a turbo doesn't make a lot of sense to me, thinking about it in terms of slower going, low rpm. My $0.02.

You make a good point, that's one of the reasons why I think it would be a cool build. The 4.9 is known for it's low end torque, and I think if done properly, you could have a torque monster on your hands. The 4.9 (when turboed) should still produce most of its power below 3k rpm. I'm thinking it would be similar to a small diesel with a turbo: low hp, high torque.

These guys are the experts...... they even have a sub forum for turbo'ing a 300 six.
