Don’t Let the Hard Days Win!

Feb 08, 2023

Good Morning Nation…. Second try, as first post vanished!

1. New to forscan, wondering people’s thoughts on interface options, as there are SO MANY. Thinking direct connect to a windows laptop but open to all thoughts at this point (I generally live in an apple ecosystem).

2. Programming question…. Do the original “as built” modules remain somewhere in the vehicle “forever” or does one need to save them before tweaking a module in the system.

Thanks

Hi! I run FORScan on a Mac with Boot Camp. On Apple Silicon, I’ve gotten it to run through a VM, but sometimes it’s a little flaky and not all modules show up. Using a good cable helps.

As for ASBUILT data, you should save your module configuration before changing anything, but if you get in a bind, FORScan will download the ASBUILT from Ford for you too.

Be careful with what you change. Some values - typically marked in red on spreadsheets - can brick a module. Most are safe though.

1. I ordered the Link that they recommended from amazon.

While we are a Mac family, but I have window laptop that I keep for work things (because some of the crappy interfaces we use require PC) and for programing radios (and now Broncos). I'm setting up on that.

2. I would download a complete copy and save it forever. Yes, you can get the As Built version after the fact, but I would want to be totally safe. If something weird gets messed up, you can always waive off and upload the one that you know works.

That's a terrible idea, when do we start?

I think @Sulley hit the main points. I also live in an Apple world, and I run a Windows VM on an Intel Mac for this and it works well. I'm using Fusion, however, not Boot Camp.

The recommended procedure for using Forscan is first do a backup of your current programming. Then checnge one thing at a time. Once you've confirmed that everything works, do another backup and then change one other thing. That way, you can go back to any point in time if something goes wrong and not have to start all over.

I agree with everything posted above. I recommend buying the Forscan Pro, not the prior version where you have to use the toggle switch. I got my Pro delivered for $30. I have read if using cell phone/bluetooth, there is the risk of losing connection.

I agree, you want to avoid that toggle switch. I got this one and it’s works like a champ. OBDLink EX FORScan OBD Adapter https://a.co/d/5jrpbRk

FWIW I've been using the ODBLinkEX and it's worked fine for me. No toggle.

If you have a Lux package, the ANC (active noise cancelation that also produces fake engine noise) lives in your DSP. It’s one of the first things worth killing.
