Sway Bar Disconnect.....

Since I've never done serious off-roading in the past, guessing won't be necessary to change models to get the sway bar disconnect. Will this be something I can add post-build or aftermarket? Do I even need to be worried about it? Have an OBX with Squatch and 2.7 on order like everyone else.

I'm sure a manual-type disconnect will come on the aftermarket down the road. You will probably be able to buy the production unit, but the install of it may not be simple.

Unless you're going to be doing some serious off roading where you need that FLEX, the sway bar disconnect isn't really necesary.

I was on the fence, little to no rock crawling for me. I have found it makes the ride on slow speed trails much better and the fam enjoys it more. AM will probably have the manual disconnects available, but the auto connect/disconnect is pretty awesome. Also ups the articulation for more capability, but that hasn't been the common use for me. Just food for thought if ride on slow stuff is also something you would appreciate.

I think that the Sasquatch is 2 times more than the average person needs. Years ago, I had a friend who had a jeep with a big lift and 35s and he rigged some type of manual disconnect. I don't think I ever saw him use it.

FWIW- I was on the fence about the sta-bar disconect- I thought I was really going to miss it, and was ready to change trim levels when I re-upped my order for 22. However, when I went to the Nevada Off-rodeo, I took a Wildtrak through the course and had no problems whatsoever. I dont think I will miss it. Its really cool tech, and it does give you more articulation, but thats not the entire game for me. Wished they offered it "alacart", but im not loosing sleep over it. Just need to figure out something to take that gap in the Hero-switch panel because it makes OCD me crazy.

My kids and I are currently auditioning action figures as well. Bandit (A character from one of the cartoons they watch) is currently the pack leader. Who knows though what they will be into by the time I get it.

Agree with the others… it really is only necessary if you are doing serious off-roading. As in… the type of off-roardng where your Bronco is likely come home with a few new dents and scratches.

If you aren’t going to beat up on your Bronco, the lockers alone will get you through 99% of the obstacles you’ll encounter.

For some added context… I personally am intending on doing some moderately heavy off-roading—nothing so heavy that I would risk flipping the truck, but definitely some difficult trails. The only reason why I got the Badlands trim is because the price difference between my preferred build (Black Diamond w/ Sas) and the Badlands trim is less than $1000 when equipped with the manual transmission.

But if the manual transmission pricing wasn’t so screwed up, I’d definitely be getting Black Diamond and skipping the fancy sway-bar disconnect system. Just another component that can break (and already has broken on a few people’s Broncos).

Can you show a link to one of these? I'd like to find out what went wrong.
I am not the leader. I just like to go first.

From what I've seen so far on Youtube, FB and IG, if you're going to serious rock crawl, the sway-bar disconnect isn't enough imo.

I went through the exact same thought pattern as you. Wife wanted the “hose down interior” and we both wanted the 7MT. BD does not allow the mid-package with the stick shift for some unknown reason. So we went with the BL.

There are a few videos out there where folks go through the disconnect and even do comparisons. If I recall the basic end result was lukewarm, meaning no complaints but no WOWZERS either. Looking up the system and structure, I can say, damn! That thing, when it goes, will not be cheap to repair. They make it sound like it is a simple 3/4 pipe that pops out of a joint to give more clearance... but... seriously... look at this thing...

I wish this was on my Jeeps. I don't do heavy off road, but have been in vehicles that have the disconnect. It makes a difference at any level. You get rid of, what I call shake, rattle, roll.

I mash that SBD button just about every time I hit the trail. Once or twice for articulation and to get ya tire back on the ground. But most often just to make the ride a bit more comfortable and eliminate the, sometimes violent, death rolling that occurs.

Would I miss it? Now that I know what it does, hell yeah.

Would I change my order? Probably not.

Would I try to add AM? Not a chance. Drive what ya got.

Automatic sway bar disconnect is a very nice feature however, with some minor modifications, I am sure you can manually disconnect the end links of the sway bar. Jeepers have been doing this for decades.

My Bronco & JKU Rubicon each have the auto disconnect but the Bronco’s ability to disconnect under load is truly awesome!
