Soft Top Roof Rack

Oct 03, 2022

Hello!
""I couldn't find it so I made it" .4.jpeg
Made out of necessity, I took 3 guests on a ski / snowboard trip last winter. Where to put the gear became a problem, with little room in the trunk it was a tight squeeze. An online search proved there were no options for soft top racks, especially back then.
The tire mounted rack came first to solve the issue for future trips, but then the need for cargo space continued.
These are Prototype Roof Rack and Tire Mounted Rack.
Test driven over 4000 miles NY to Smokey Mountains then NY to LA.
80Mph with 80Lbs through Kansas... no problems. PERFORMED BETTER THAN EXPECTED.
Stopped at the Bronco Super Celebration West in BV Colorado, drove the Mosquito Pass with 40LBS on top, no problems and lots of compliments. Thenhours spent on the bumpy washboarded dirt roads of the Mojave. We drove it off road even though I specifically state on my website its not intended for off roading or overloading, we figured we try for fun. Zero damage!
We had great success, we even won an award from Bronco Driver Mag at the SuperCel.
If the front two "hand knobs" are removed it tilts back and rests on the tire. If all 4 knobs are removed the rack lift off or slides back off the brackets.
The brackets can be installed or remove in less than 10 mins. I generally leave them on, they are low profile and don't get in the way.
I do remove the rack often as I live and work in NYC and use parking lots with hight restrictions.
The rack will work with or without the windows.
There rear window slides out unobstructed with the rack in the down position.
The side windows come out with the roof rack in the tilted back position and the "rear window cross bar" unlatched.
For quick protection I slide the side windows then the rear in with the roof rack down. I use just the top clips and velcro to hold them in. I don't slide the bottoms in. I would not drive like this, but it keeps moisture and critters out and the windows can be easily remove when ready.
Where to keep those removed windows is between you and Ford. They don't stow well in the trunk...

...Not for sale yet, just seeing if there's interest.. Mostly designed for people like me. Skis/Snowboards to the slopes, Surf Boards to the beach, Camping Gear or Luggage. 80 lbs max.
Meant for Urban / Suburban 95% on road driving.
Attaches using existing hard top bolt holes, no vehicle modification needed. Sticky back matching plastic pillar protector attaches behind rear windows on the pillar. Keeps the friction of the bumper off actual vehicle parts. After 4000+ miles and lots of dirty roads 0, ZERO damage done. VHB tape peels off 100% clean.

If there's enough interest we will manufacture them.

We passed the initial patent search and submitted drawings as of 2 months ago.

That’s pretty cool! Does the rack collapse at all for storage when not installed?
