Simple question. I have always had manual transmissions in off-road vehicles. Can the 10 speed auto transmission shift into a "manual" mode while wheeling?

It kinda has a manual mode. It does not have paddle shifters but the control is located on the side of the shifter.
I wish Ford's autos were a little more responsive when using them in manual mode but they are still being controlled by the computers.

You can use the paddle shifters and go "manual" in most automatics today. But I think the computer will not "let you" do certain things. Like hitting redline, it may shift into the next gear, even if you didn't touch the paddle. Or if you try to force it to downshift what the computer thinks is "too many gears", it won't. If you want to drive the engine higher into higher RPMs than normal, that’s your prerogative with a manual gearbox. The power bands in the automatic transmission may wear faster if you play with it a lot. The dual clutches in an automatic with manual mode are more things to break, as are the transmission fluid coolers and such. Repairs being more expensive, I would use the paddles only occasionally, as needed. Not for fun.

Just a interesting fact, the transmission does not shift into OD while in low range. But a SAS will quietly do 25 MPH at just shy of 3500 RPMs in 4L. I imagine they are protecting the tcase from excessive output speeds.

Thanks fellas! I stopped by our dealership this morning to discover that there IS NO soft top for th 2 door Bronco! I mean this should be a no brainer. It can't be difficult to design, I've been designing electro-mechanical devices for decades and this ain't hard. Why did they decide not to have what Jeep has had for 70 years!

You might want to take a look at this recent thread where people have put forth various opinions on the matter. Ultimately no one knows, and I doubt Ford will ever explicitly say why the don't offer a feature.
