I am planning to purchase a hard shell rooftop for my 2022 Big Bend. Thinking about a Roam Rambler. Any feedback or advice from anyone who purchased a Roam Rambler or other hard shell would be most appreciated. What effect can I expect on gas milage?

We had the Rambler on our BN Bronco. @MattR was a fan of staying in it, and it was relatively quiet. We altered the suspension and added different wheels and tires, so gas mileage was lower than factory with all that combined but nothing awful. About 16-17, Matt, @jparker?

Still going through the buying process myself so don't have a whole lot of advice to give. But in case it helps, here are the options I'm looking at in addition to the ROAM Rambler. All seem to be decent options.

  • iKamper Skycamp 3.0
  • iKamper BDV
  • Go Fast Campers RTT

If money weren't an object I'd also look at AT Overland Summit... but... pricey.

I've enjoyed my time with the Roam Rambler. It's very comfortable and spacious on the inside. Easy pop-up as it is a hard shell. Not sure of the overall impact on noise, as we had no insulated headliner, roof-rack, loud tires, light bar, and other pieces that impacted noise levels. Definitely a lower gas mileage (16-17), but like Laura said, there were other factors that played into that too.

Overall I would recommend the Rambler if you're looking at it! Also looks sleek as opposed to some of the fold-out tents.

Thanks. Only concerned about milage because I will be driving the Dempster Highway to the Arctic Ocean this summer and petrol stations are few and far between.
