Rock Pinging

[I posted the other day, but somehow my post got onto the Bronco Sport forum, and now it seems to be on the wrong forum again. Sorry about my poor ability to get it right! While I have a full-size and a sport, this convo relates to my 2023 Wildtrak Sasquatch full-size, and should be in the General Bronco Forum].

I’d like to quiet the rock pinging I get when driving on or coming off gravel.

I met someone who has used Raptor Line truck-bed liner along the bottom of his doors. I also got answers on my other post about installing front mud flaps (which I’ve ordered). Now I’m seeing on reddit posts about Rocker Body Appearance Kit, which Ford sells for $409. I think those would look good on my Oxford White Wildtrak, but I wonder if they’ll really provide both protection and noise reduction?

Any input?

(pictures attached are front Mabett Mud Flaps I just purchased but not installed yet and the Rocker Body Appearance Kit from Ford)

The gravel noise is one of the trade-offs with off-road tires (especially the factory goodyears). You can cut it down, but not really eliminate it all the way.

I think a good set of mud flaps are the best option. The Mabet ones you ordered look a lot like the IAG ones my spouse has on her non-squatch bronco and they work fine. I run RokBloxz mudflaps on my Wildtrak and they keep the rocks down, but they are pretty huge and stupid expensive.

I cant speak to the rocker body kit you are looking at, but most (though not all) the rock rash I have on my doors is below the style line on the bottom of the door. I would think that kit would cut down some of the impacts, but you are still going to hear it hitting the door.

A third approach is to think about running boards. Some folks run those just to keep the rocks down.

Thanks Mal. I do have running boards that came with my rig. Maybe that’s already helping. I have added pinch weld covers, but they’re also metal, so I think they cover the ugly pinch welds, but don‘t help with any noise. I've ordered the mud flaps but will wait on the rocker body kit for now. That noise was fine years ago when I had my F150 Raptor, but I was younger then and noises didn’t annoy me so much.

At about 9000 miles, the stock tires quit throwing so many rocks. Between mud flaps and running boards, it wasn't too bad, but did grow less after the 9000 miles. I live at the end of a mile and a half gravel road...
