Question on Bronco Badges

Good morning Bronco Nation! Have a question on Bronco Badges. I have tried finding the answer, but can't seem to find one. I'm curious how Ford decided on the badge names, i.e. Badlands, Big Bend, Black Diamond, etc. I can make a guess and say it could have something to do with areas that are an off-roaders dream or perhaps where the Bronco was tested, but I would like to know if there really is an explanation for each one. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!

Thanks for tagging me, @bdawson24. Yes, @kskatt316, you're correct! They are named after outdoor adventure and landmark areas. There are also some special things in the G.O.A.T. modes, like the choice of "Baja." You can read up on 'Big Oly,' the vehicle that inspired that here.

The Trims:
Base
Big Bend: National Park (Texas). Additionally, one of the first Broncos was sent to designer and racer Carroll Shelby in 1967, who sent it on to his ranch not far from Big Bend. It's still in Texas now!
Black Diamond: An interesting tidbit on this one: GM owned the name for awhile, but it's Ford's now. Same with the Sasquatch designation: Jeep was using it but never trademarked it.
Outer Banks: Famous off-roading location in North Carolina -- think miles of open sandy beaches.
Badlands: National Park (South Dakota)
Wildtrak: Ford reused the name from the Ranger Wildtrak, sold in Australia and other countries.
First Edition
2021 Oxford White 2-door non-Sas Mid package 2.7L/10-speed Badlands with MIC top
2021 Carbonized Gray 2-door Sas High package 2.7L/10-speed Badlands with MIC top
Keeping the Jeeps: stock '89 XJ and 3.5" lifted '00 XJ on 31s and '89 MJ

Thank you! I was sure they had a reason, just couldn't find out what. Now I'm off to read about the Baja and to go find out more on the Black Diamond. If I'm going to own it I would like to know the history on how Ford got the name from GM and why. Should be interesting if i can find anything lol. Again, I sure do appreciate your help and thank you @bdawson24 for the tag!!

No problem.

Also, if you haven't read it yet, pick up a copy of "A History of Ford's Legendary 4x4" by my friend @tzuercher.

It is an excellent read.

@bdawson24 thank you for the suggestion!!! I have just ordered it and can't wait to read the history. I love knowing all the facts on the Bronco. I have loved the Bronco since I was a kid and always wanted to be the proud owner of one, especially a '66-'73 model. I placed my order with my dealer on Monday and my order placement is 15. Still not 100% sure what that means. I am guessing it has to do with allocation to the different dealers and when your order may be picked up by Ford for production. I'm guessing it will still be a long wait lol. Again thank you for the book suggestion!

Glad you are getting the book. I know Todd personally and he is very qualified and has tons of knowledge. I also am happy that you are going to be the proud owner of a new one. I can tell you from personal experience, they are really capable and I'm really excited to get mine. 66-73 are great years, just curious, why not 74-77?

@bdawson24 haha it was because I was born in '73. Not that I don't like the '74-'77, just didn't want one younger than me! In all seriousness, I really didn't care for the look after '77. I am thrilled that Ford kept to the history of the Bronco and made it to look like a Bronco.

That is great that you are diving in to learn more about these great new Broncos and the history. I ordered Todd's book as well.

I always come on here and plug the Bring Back Bronco podcast series. It is an outstanding series on all things bronco and it looks at the rise and fall of the Bronco along with the current affairs during each era. They interview Todd and many executives from Ford. As @BuzzyBud would say, pop a cold one open, listen, and enjoy! Cheers.

Here is the link to the Youtube channel. They are outstanding. Whenever I start getting down about this launch, I jump back in and listen to all the great content to remind me of the end goal and what it took to bring this beast back to the road.

@Hobgoblin I have just finished the podcast series you suggested. Loved it! I know I don't have a ton of Bronco knowledge (like others on here) but I found it to be extremely interesting and full of information that I don't think I would have found out otherwise. I was living in New Zealand at the time of the infamous Bronco pursuit and did not get that much information regarding it, but it was implied the Bronco belonged to OJ. To find out that was incorrect was an interesting surprise. All of the background info on Ford and the Bronco "underground" and the love that people have for the Bronco really makes me happy that I stuck with my love of the Bronco even when I was told it would never come back.

Awesome!!!!

Not sure if you want to go a little further, BUT, if you are able to attend Bronco Super Celebration West (Sept8-11th) in Buena Vista CO, you can take your Bronco experience to the next level.

Thank you for the link. I sure hope to get there. Not an owner just yet (wish I had an older model to keep me happy until my new baby arrives) but would love to go and be a looky-loo. No just to convince the hubs we need to go......
