What is the best off road maps for a newly off-roader, Onx, Gaia, or other?

I've been playing with both - I usually end up using a blend of OnX, Gaia, Trailsoffroad.com, and Alltrails to find new places to go, and map my journey. Sorry, this probably doesn't help, but it can be tough LOL

That’s helpful but do you have an idea which would be best to get my feet (wheels) wet?

That's a terrible idea, when do we start?

In that case, you might be better off with OnX since they have a lot of YouTube videos that show you how to do things with it. But I agree, I sent to use the same combo as @Calgecko. Trailsoffroad.com is also very useful when first starting out since they have a bunch of trails already defined, videos of the actual trail, etc.

OnX Off-Road absolutely has the most amount of momentum among the community right now. Gaia is older and a little more mature, but you can definitely tell that OnX Off-Road probably will overtake Gaia in the not-so-distant future.

However, the big benefit with Gaia is that it combines off-roading, hiking, skiing, and biking all into the same application under the same subscription service. OnX Maps also has a hiking/skiing/biking application, but they offer it in a different application (OnX Backcountry) under a completely separate subscription. So if you want that data you get to pay for two subscriptions.

Trailsoffroad.com has lots of good trails if you live west of the Rocky Mountains. If you live east of the Rockies... it's very sparse, almost nothing. AllTrails I've actually never heard of but I'm going to go check it out now that @Calgecko has mentioned it.

My club seems to favor Gaia, so I checked it out and compared it to some of the others. They all have similar functionality but I think you will encounter regional favoritism, which makes sense. The needs of the rollers in California will likely be very different from the needs of people in Nebraska by virtue of the differences in terrain. Since my club seems to have already mapped the hot spots in my area it makes sense for me to use their preferred app. At the end if the day I think the choice is fairly subjective depending upon your personal needs. I am also totally new to this and have been using on-x. Have discovered some pretty fun trails nearby that I never knew existed. The ability to download a map for use when you loose cell service is nice as well.
