Is the extended warranty worth it?

Finalizing everything on my Bronco this week, and wanted to get some feed back on the extended warranty.
I understand there are options to get the warranty through the dealer (Ford Premium Protection) or 3rd Party (Granger or Ford ESP). Is any of it worth it? Or is any one version of the extended warranty better than the others?

So far it seems like Ford as built a pretty good vehicle, no big issues like Jeep's death wobble. So far my only concern about Ford is the electronics. The extended warranty from the dealer is $45/mo.

I always buy a mid-range extended warranty, somewhere between 1500-2100 cost…

with new technology replacing a screen and computer pushing it can cost $3000. So many things we can’t fix anymore, it just makes sense to me.

Also, if you trade or sell before you reach the end of the extended warranty, you get a pro-rated refund on unused portion.

I only buy Ford extended warranty. No question when i take it to the dealer.

I am in finance at a dealership. I work here and I still put a warranty and maintenance on my vehicles. The 1-2 times you are going to most likely need it make it worth it. Its the same as health and auto insurance....you may rarely use it...but when you finally do, it will be worth it.

Include the cost in the car pricing…. Less painful, and not reminded monthly

This is a loaded question. That said, I DID purchase full coverage at the time of purchase. I can cash out of it at a prorated amount at any given time, or leave it in place and use it as a selling point for future buyers.

You have to weigh the value against your real-world use/abuse of the vehicle. My coverage is very comprehensive, including windshield replacement, pointless door ding repair, and all scheduled maintenance including wipers, etc. And this coverage is for years beyond what the factory offers. Was it cheap? Hell no. But I did get friends and family pricing as an enticement.

Buying a new vehicle is an emotional experience. Try to keep your emotions in check when you make financial decisions that could likely impact you financially for years. Would I do it again? YES! You cannot beat the peace of mind of knowing you don't have to worry about a thing. Not one thing. Money can, in fact, buy peace of mind. So I would recommend purchasing the extended coverage, but try to get it for less than the going rate. Everything is negotiable. Remember that!

If you are going to get it Please do yourself a favor and go with Granger, Flood Ford, or Ziegler online. They are all 100% real Ford ESP and will show up on fordpass right away. I saved $1500 by going with Flood Ford vs the dealer who was trying to rip me off. At bare minimum please go online and get price from those 3 websites (it's free to get quote and don't need to put in any additional personal info) and then take that quote with you to see if dealer can match the price. I hate seeing people get financially screwed by dealers when they get the warranty from them.

Ok..... With that said I feel the same way as the others that replied. I went with the full coverage on my bronco because just like others stated, parts and electronics are very very expensive. I ended up with 100k mile warranty just to give me piece of mind. And I don't trust any brand new first model vehicle and mine is a MY21 so I assume I'll have some weird stuff go wrong sooner or later lol

My opinion is opposite of the ones presented here. An extended warranty is sort of like an insurance policy but you have to make a judgement on what you are protecting yourself from. You need to determine how long you are going to keep the vehicle for and how many miles over that time you intend to drive it. And you need to read the fine print and fully understand what the policy DOES NOT COVER. What I don't like about buying an extended warranty at time of new vehicle purchase is it covers you for the same period the factory warranty does, then extends some time past the factory warranty. Ford maxs out at 10 years and 175,000 miles. Lots of caveats in the fine print*. Just keep in mind, the House usually wins. Automotive parts are generally manufactured correctly and last for their intended mean time between failure at their intended design use, or they are not manufactured correctly and break right away (e.g. the 2.7L Ecoboost valvetrain of mid-to-late 2021). Other than that parts wear out due to time or dirt. Dirt and rust wears a lot of parts out. Rust is specifically not covered under any extended warranty plan.

*for example "...repairs caused by improper unreasonable use, unauthorized alterations or modifications of the vehicle, and repairs caused by lack of required or recommended maintenance."

Valid argument against it, for sure. That's why it's important to weigh all of the alternatives before making a decision. It's specific to every buyer. And some of the soft-sell features are of dubious value. Fortunately, while some decisions are required at the time of purchase, there is the collateral peace of mind of knowing that you can, in most cases, back out of the supplemental warranty after the fact if you decide it's not proving its worth and get a prorated return on your investment.

Reading the fine print is always a good idea. If memory serves you can buy an extended warranty anytime before the original warranty lapses.

While I agree most components that might fail will do so within the original 36,000 mile B2B warranty, some of the advanced electronics are expensive and not as time-tested.

As always, let the buyer beware. I find value in the product and almost always am dealing with the same dealership, so in general if there is a gray area they try to err in my favor.

No warranty is going to cover "...repairs caused by improper unreasonable use, unauthorized alterations or modifications of the vehicle, and repairs caused by lack of required or recommended maintenance."

You can always cash it in if you change your mind. I go through a lot of cars. When we go to trade one in, we contact the finance people. They ask for an odometer statement or whatever and prorate the left over warranty to a check that shows up in the mail a few weeks later.
Totally worth it.

This day and age I always go with the Extended service plan and use Flood Ford (unless your in Fla.) its a very easy process and you can use your Ford reward points toward it. Now Granger has just good deal. Also the Ford ESP is the actual Ford warranty no matter what Ford dealer you get it from, not some 3rd party like car shield.

Keep in mind that you do not have to get it right away, you have up until your 3/36 expires to purchase it but if you get it within your first year its cheaper. I also like that you can choose the deductible, year & mileage so you can tailor to your needs.

Here is an example why to get it. My cousin had a 2018 Raptor and his transmission just went out on it on a road trip @ 86k miles and he doesn’t have the extended warranty. Ford said it would be $7700 to fix tranny & coolers. Now, he owns a business with Ford fleet vehicles so he bickered with Ford and they ended up paying for half. Then about a month later his tie rod needed replaced, cost him more money. A few months later it started running hot so he brought it to the dealer and just traded it on a new F150 Platinum. Also he never used it off road, just as daily driver and work vehicle.

My Mustang AC went out around the 4 yr mark (out of warranty) cost was $2500 but I had the Ford ESP, so paid my $100 deductible and was on my merry way.

So if you plan on keeping the vehicle I would recommend but if you trade vehicles a lot then don’t worry about it.
One more thing, if your going to modify your Bronco then you could void all your warranty, something to also consider.

Look into the no finance warranties from Ford Protect. Got to ford.com... they are worth it especially if you plan to use your Bronco.

I got the nine year 130,000 mile warranty from my dealer, which is really a 6 year warranty because of the 3 year manufacture warranty. Before hand I got several quotes from other options. I was then able to dicker down the price of the dealer offered one.
With the exorbitant cost of repairs and the high likely hood of having needed repairs on cars these days, it's a good choice.

BTW. If you wait to get the extended warranty until just before your manufacturer warranty expires, you will pay more as it will be based on milage.

Common knowledge. Selling cars doesn't earn dealers the cash flow you would think. It's the add-ons such as warranties and servicing. Just like printers. They're cheap devices, but the true cost should be measured in the number of ink cartridges you need to feed it over the years!
