My sis got the new bronco, but we are trying to figure out what the black box mounted on the windshield next to the rear view mirror is. Looks like it has a camera pointed out the front maybe, and some sort of sensor pointing towards the hood.

It's part of the sensors for the high and LUX packages. ACC, crash avoidance, etc

It is on all Broncos, but only certain packages make use of it. From my understanding, if you have the higher end option packages there are sensors and cameras in that box.

Yup! that sounds like it. I checked out the user manual and IF she has the package, It looks like it will alert her if she drives off the road and things like that.
It's funny, I will have to tell her to test it by driving faster than 40mph and drive off the road and into the shoulder and see if anything happens!

I think you can save her the trouble. Just ask her if she has an Adaptive Cruise Control button on her steering wheel.

It's actually the camera for "pre-collision assist", which is on all Broncos not just those with High/Lux packages. Pages 262-268 in your manual with a picture and label on page 264.

Adaptive cruise control works off a radar sensor in the front bumper, which is also labeled on page 264 in the owner's manual.
