Greetings, first post here and I have a question. Please, all emasculating and wise comments aside. I live in Denver, Colorado (this will be somewhat relevant to the post) and recently received the joyous news that I have been assigned a VIN and build week, HOORAY ME! Well, in all my excitement of finding out I lost my order, dealer went out of business, another dealer took over my order - meaning they literally changed it to a fully loaded wild track, and then finding out Ford honored my original date and build, I realized I left of the rear locking diff and 4.27 gears. My build is a Non-Sas Big Bend with pretty much everything else, EXCEPT Lockers. My wife and I wanted something that was more capable then our 2016 explorer. something that I can get to the mountains in, with the kids, and back and go further then the explorer would.

So I ask.....what am I left with? Can I get where I wanna go? No crawling but mud and ruts and of course somewhat deep powder snow.

Thanks for any encouragment.

Welcome to BN!!! Denver here as well and I went with the WT for the simple fact it got me more clearance and 35's stock. But, having seen the non-SAS at the Denver Roadshow (didn't have any SAS there) this past weekend I'd say yes your build will be fine in most places around CO

You should be able to call the dealer and add those items. I'd atleast call and find out.

Awesome, thank you. I was mostly worried about not having lockers and being in snow/mud. Clearance I can fix later on with shocks and rubber, but lockers and such are a whole new system that I cant do in my garage. Any chance you saw what Trail Tool Box items came with not having lockers and SAS?

I should have mine end of July Early August, I do not envy the WT Wait.

I thought the same thing. I called Ford and the Dealer, I have learned to double check with my issues so far. Once assigned a Vin and Build week you are done. unless you want to move to MY22.

Oh I meant the basic Trail Stuff. Ford calls the assist items the "Trail Tool Box" also called Hero Buttons. Wasnt sure if you need lockers and such for the Trail Turn Assist, One Pedal Drive and such come with it no matter what. (well, with the auto trans and 2.7 at least.)

This is the OBX from this weekend, not the best photo of the hero buttons though. Only had the 3 options plus hazards

Worst case scenario.... the Dana axle back there is the same as the Jeep's, therefore, there will be numerous options if you absolutely MUST have a locker/ limited slip of some type.

I have no idea what a Denver winter is like...
Your concern is on road/trail traction , correct?
What vehicles have you used in the past? What would you consider a bare minimum?

Personally, I am very interested in how well all the electronic traction aids will work on my base Base before I look into a traction aiding device.
Day 1 res first 3 hours, Feb 6th order; May 25th? scheduled for build, July 15th Build date, Dirt Mountain 2.5 months, delivered into my loving hands Oct. 8th

Denver Winters tend to be deep short lived powered snow and cold. Then it melts in a day when the sun comes out and makes mud for a while.

Yes my concern is not wanting to be the guy who gets his Bronco stuck because he thought he could do a 4X4 only train of mud, ruts and rocks.
I dont really have a minimum, I just have a Fully Loaded Non-Sas Big Bend that I missed the lockers on and cant change. No regrets really, just seeing limitations.

I am with you on the electronic aids, but what do I have. Seems the pic above of the Outer Banks has a few things, but not sure if that has a locker or not.

I am on my 3rd Ford Explorer now and it has the select drive options for the AWD, but hoping I get more then an explorer out of this lol.

For Denver you'll be just fine, I wouldn't be worried about it honestly. Being in CO since 1996 and been on many roads for search and rescue missions never needded lockers

And hopefully I will not be the subject of one of your search and rescues. What kind of work has you doing that?

I was a medic in Denver and then volunteered for about 13 years with Grand County and then Alpine Rescue Team for the majority.

Lockers aren't that great in snow. I'd rather have open or limited slip differentials. They call lockers, "low side finders" because you have less lateral stability. This is a generalization, but there is a reason people say that

Thank you. Not 100% sure what that means, but its telling me that my decision to not do Sas and missing Lockers was a nice accident.
