Brake controller for Bronco Sport Badlands

Ford does not offer a brake controller accessory for the Bronco Sport since it has a maximum tow rating of 2200 lbs (most states do not require trailer brakes until 3000 lbs).

So... you will have to go with an aftermarket brake controller accessory, and the installation won't be cheap since the Bronco Sport does not have a factory 7-pin connector. I assume you were looking for a dealer to do the installation so it would be warrantied, but since it won't be an official Ford component/accessory, it won't be covered by the factory warranty. Regardless, I'm sure there are dealers with custom accessory businesses that will do the installation for you--it just won't be warrantied by Ford.

If you were looking to do it yourself, you could probably buy most generic 7-pin upgrade kits, but to install it you'll have to rip of some trim pieces to run the cabling from the engine bay to the rear of the vehicle.

Looking for Ford dealer that will install the Ford Bronco brake controller. Any dealer in Ga, SC,NC would work. I have been unable to confirm that this is an acceptable installation by either dealer where I bought the car or from Ford Motor Co.

Not sure what you would be trying to pull with a Sport that you would need a brake controller. That type load I am almost positive is well outside ethe tow rating of the Sport

2200# load, Echo Trailer@440, Polaris UTV@ 1360#. Total @ 2000# with gas/oil. Elec brakes on trailer which I pulled with a 2003 Ranger XLT, after mkt trailer brake system.

Ford just confirmed that the Bronco brake controller is not adaptable to the Bronco Sport; after market part/installation will void warranty.

I am going to test the UTV load w/the factory Class II hitch tow pkg next trip to the mts. of NC.

Maybe theres a way to make it a plug and play system so it can be removed when not in use. If im not mistaken(I could be as I'm not familiar with the set up) its all electrical. Maybe trailer mount the controller and have a plug connection to your sport....just trying to be helpful.

Gotcha, never used a trailer brake for my toys, not much need for it.
Heck, we don't even have them on our trailers for Search and Rescue in CO even running emergent now that I think about it.

I guess maybe surge breaks on the trailer?
IDK. Never thought too much about it on smaller trailers.
