Can someone explain what the new advanced 4x4 with automatic on demand engagement is? Is this for all wheel drive on the highway or high speeds?

Advanced 4x4 gives you a 4A option. When four-wheel drive auto is selected, the system provides electronically controlled four-wheel drive with power delivered to the front and rear wheels, as required, for increased traction on varying road conditions. 4A, if equipped, is the default four-wheel drive mode when the Bronco is in Sport Mode so one would assume that you can drive with it engaged at high speeds.

I think 4A is a mode where it stays in 2wd, until loss of traction is detected, at which point, it will provide power to front differential. So you can put it in 4A, and drive normally.

This is information I have gotten from the B&P, Raptor forums and 6G forums, along with reading about it in general.

Yeah in simple terms the 4A uses a different gearbox in the Bronco that works just like an AWD option without using 4H since 4H increases wear on your components.

As others have said it does the thinking for you. When it senses slipping it sends power to front if needed essentially. It’s like a normal 4x4 where it slips you quickly select 4H and then if it gets better traction out put it in 2H..... 4A in my opinion is not needed at all but it is nice to have for those that don’t want to think about if they need to be in 4H or not

This is a great option for those who encounter significant snow/ice. For many years I would commute to work via the interstate at 3:00 AM. It did not matter the condition of the roads since the hospital was operational 24/7/365. At that time of the day, the interstate was loaded with 18 wheelers. The vehicles without advanced 4X4 were off-road driving in the median strip. In my part of the world, it is as important as AC for vehicles in Texas. Ford will sell a boatload of Broncos in my area! :)

It looks like 4A is the option to choose when on road in slippery conditions (rain/snow). 4H or 4L would be my choice for off road depending on conditions, not 4A although that would work too. Comments?
