Seems like folks use a combination of these and others to pick a trail.

@Jakob1972 nailed it.

OnX is my favorite of the bunch, but they primarily focus on the west side of the country, and their data is pretty limited on the east side. (I guess to be fair, off-roading is also very limited here in east by comparison to what the west has available.)

AllTrails focuses more on hiking and camping than actual off-roading. My least favorite.

Gaia is isn't as good as OnX for strictly off-roading, but it is the most well-rounded application if you like the outdoors in general. The big downside with OnX is they split up their mapping applications into different apps/subscriptions (OnX Fish, OnX Backcountry, OnX Off-road, etc.). With Gaia it's all one subscription.

I would also definitely check out Overland Expo East. Occurs every October and would be a good place to talk to other folks and see where they're going.
