Wherever you go, there you are!

Jun 27, 2024

Figured I'd start a thread for Overland Expo PNW. Feel free to add your own Expo photos, updates, reports and any other information you might want to include.

Photos of the event, vendors, off-roading, BN base camp, food, bonfires, etc...

I am all packed and ready to roll. Car fridge is plugged in and getting up to temps. All that's left is to load the Bronco up and head out for my 3+ hour drive.

I plan on getting there right about about 4pm and getting my tent set up. Come find me and say hello! Hot Pepper Red 2dr that topless and will be parked by my Kodiak Canvas Tent.

See you all there and I look forward to seeing your trip reports and photos!

Awesome! Did you remove your top before your road trip or did you remove it (and store it) somewhere once you got there?
Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.

My top is off 24/7 and in a public storage unit for several months out of the year. I have a garage but it's a small one car with low ceiling so I can't store it inside of it. I take top off in Spring and it stays off until Winter.

Thanks for taking time from your day to shoot me some photos of the Overland camper I've been looking at since the nearest dealer to me is in Kennewick,WA. Your photos put me over the finish line and I have reserved/ordered a 2025 model of the little fella!

Back home.

Sorry I did not post more while at the event but I was busy having a complete blast! The BN Staff, @Laura, @cam.hunter, Jordan, @TK1215 and the Off-Rodeo peeps who were there like Blake and Dani were awesome as well! If I missed any of the staff my apologies but just know that you were just as awesome!

They fed us like kings! I had brought a bunch of food to last the 4 day trip and did not eat any of it.

Thursday:

Arrived and set up camp. Met a bunch of new and cool people and we had Pizza for dinner. Hung out by the camp fire later in the evening as more Bronco owners arrived and set up camp.

Friday:

Woke up and had some coffee. Went on one of the trail rides, this particular one was classified as easy. It was a very easy trail but it had some very nice views. This trail ride was from 9am to 1pm. These trail rides were led by Off-Roadeo instructors. There was another trail ride in the afternoon, a moderate trail, but I decided to do the moderate trail on Saturday as I wanted to do one trail ride a day then hit the expo after the trail rides to explore.

Sorry I didn't get any photos inside the expo but I did remember to take some photos of a camper trailer that @Sven had asked me to take. Edit, see his above post.. He ordered it! Nice score @Sven!

Got back to basecamp after exploring the expo and had dinner. After dinner we all just hug out by the fire and talked about the events of the day and got to know each other. There was a movie night but I went to bed as I was tired. I am sure it was fantastic but I was snoring away while it played.

Saturday:

Woke up in the morning and had some coffee. The trail ride I went on was a moderate trail with a few difficult and tricky obstacles. Dani, from the Las Vegas Off-Rodeo, was my trail guide for this trail and she was beyond awesome! This trail ride was from 8am-1pm

Only 3 of us on this ride attempted one of the more difficult obstacles on this trail but all 3 of us made it with the help of Dani's excellent spotting. The other Broncos decided to take the bypass and avoid that particular obstacle. No shame in that at all. Heck we even had a Sport with us on this trail that did fantastic.

Side note: If you hear any rumblings that the reason I was the only one to make it up and over that difficult obstacle w/o causing any damage and/or bottoming out was because of my shorter wheelbase 2DR then do not believe it. My story, and I am sticking to it, is that I was just a better driver. 😜 😜

Seriously though, aside from meeting the BN staff and everyone who attended basecamp, this was the highlight of the trip for me.

Got back and had lunch, sandwiches, chips and drinks courtesy of BN then hit the expo again. After that I relaxed by the fire and enjoyed the conversations with fellow Bronco owners. Dinner was BBQ that was again provided by BN!

Sunday:

Woke up, drank some coffee (see a pattern here?) and broke down camp. I then went to the campfire area where I relaxed with other owners until the Expo opened at 9am. I went back into the expo to check out a few other areas. After that, I went back to basecamp and said goodbye, for now, to all the BN staff and BN members I could find. Hopped in the Bronco and headed home.

If you have never attended one of these events then I highly recommend it! It was such an awesome time and I can't really put it into words. @Laura pulled off the event w/o a hitch, the rest of the BN staff was fantastic, and the Off-Roadeo staff that was present was an added bonus. They were also fantastic!

I don't have many photos to share but here are a few more.

Does anybody remember the trails we took during the 1st OE PNW in 2022? I've been wanting to head back to those trails and the off road playground area we did.

Did the same thing the 1st year with all the food and gear to be self sufficient and cook but didn't need it at all. To be fair each year the instructions have stated to treat it like an overlanding/camping experience and to be fully self sufficient. Curious if these photos are a good representation of the overall trail. Were lockers used? I was told not to do this one without lockers but this looks just like the drive we did the 1st year at OE PNW, which I did fine even when I had the factory street duelers, in fact we did areas that were a little more rock crawly then what's shown here.

Here is the moderate trail from this years run. For some reason the easy trail I recorded is not showing up in my tracks. I might have deleted it by accident. I am sure someone can help you find the ones from 2022.

Photos never do a trail justice. Yes lockers were needed and used on the moderate trail in a few areas of the trail. The trail is rated as a level 6 which is a high end moderate trail rating and that is pretty accurate IMO..

At least 2 Broncos, that I saw - may have been more, sustained underbody damage on the trail. One of them, a lifted Bronco on 37's, hit a massive rock pile so hard, with it's underbody, that the rear of the soft top actually popped up, off it's mounting spots and open.

Take this photo, for instance.

IMG_0243.jpeg

The photo is very deceiving as this was a very steep, very rocky, and a very technical spot of the trail. Mandatory rear locker use but some needed to use front and rear lockers. A competent spotter was also needed.

I was the only one who attempted this who didn't get underbody damage. Like I jokingly said before, some will say it's because I was in a shorter wheelbase 2dr but I am claiming, and I'm sticking to my story, that I was just a better driver. πŸ˜‚

I would not attempt this trail solo, without lockers and without a competent spotter. The photos make it look easy'ish though.

Hey @raqball!

Great to meet you at this year's Overland Expo PNW. It's fun to read through your experience each day. I can attest that there was no shortage of caffeine πŸ˜‚ I love to hear that you had a great weekend at Basecamp and out on the trails. You got through that lava rock obstacle with no issue πŸ’ͺ Thank you for your kind words to our staff!!

I am working through editing all the pictures I took out there. I don't know for sure if I have video of you going up but there should be some nice shots I can send your way. Cheers!
