Went on a run with a big off-roading group called SCORCH (Southern California Offroad Club & Hangouts) to Hungry Valley SVRA on Saturday. Defiantly a diverse set of vehicles and skill levels on this run. I was the only Bronco, but we had pretty much everything under the sun, including a Rivian. It was a fun trip, and near the end we ran across a Bronco stuck in a mud pit and had to help him out. We tried first with the Lexus and ALMOST got him out. But not quite. So, we hooked my Bronco to the Lexus, and between the two of us it was no problem.

He learned some valuable lessons that day:
  1. Don't go alone, or you might have to wait for quite a while before someone comes along to help you if you get stuck. He was lucky our group came a long when we did, and he only had to wait about 5 minutes.
  2. Don't enter a water/mud pit if you don't know how deep it is. My rule is never go first. 😎
  3. Have some basic recovery gear. He had NOTHING. Lucky for him that with 30 vehicles we had a pretty good variety of things to choose from.
  4. Don't offer the people that help you money ... the off-roaders creed is to never leave someone in distress out on the trail without helping them. We aren't looking for a payday, just a pay it forward.
But, all's well that ends well. We got him out, popped open the airbox to see if the air filter was wet, and it wasn't so we felt safe having him start it up and drive off for home.

So, we all left there having had a great time, and with a sense of accomplishment.

We did some hill climbs, and just generally ran all over Hungry Valley.

Hungry Valley has a 4x4 "training" or "practice" area where we stopped for lunch and to play a bit.

And then just as we were heading out of the park, we ran across a Bronco Outer Banks stuck in a mud/water pit.

Last, but not least, here's a picture of the Rivian we had with us.
